Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to raise $3.75 BILLION for "acquisitions"

well theres always hope that they buy another Rare zombie, dead but still moving.

Nintendo where are you in these most opportunistic of times?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

i can validate my point, it was a joke. Hypocritically i would have no problem if Nintendo did the same so do calm down.

I wonder what Microsoft is thinking right now in terms of JRPGs? They have Magna Carta 2, but lets be honest, thats not gonna do NEAR as much for HW as Star Ocean or Vesperia did. Mistwalker would be a great choice, seeing as MS practically FOUNDED them, but I want MS to acquire Namco ^_^ I certainly wouldn't argue with Tales of Vesperia 2 :P

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Actually there are two good targets for aquisition. Valve and Epic. Epic makes engines for a lot of games and they have a strong relationship with Microsoft and Valve has the biggest online game distribution site under their belt as well.

I doubt they would buy Epic because they make a lot of money with the unreal engine and MS would most likely make that engine exclusive to MS, then developers would have to license a different engine if they wanted to put a game on the ps3. I see them spending the money mostly on start-up companies because they could be the most profitable if they explode like twitter, youtube, ect...

Wow thats alot of cash. I hope to see them purchase at least one game studio since so far MS doesn't have exactly the largest first party. Valve or Ubisoft would be amazing purchases but I don't think either will happen. It'll probably be mostly smaller companies if anything. Something they can buy for cheap then pump some cash into to turn them into AAA developers.

Also does microsoft actually own Lionhead? I think they do but I'm not certain.

Like someone already said it's very doubtfull they will use this toward gaming...
Gaming acquisition are pocket changes compared to the kind of acquisition MSFT could do in its core business area.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Microsoft needs to buy the Duke Nukem liscense for one, they also need to look into buying Midway or some of its franchise like Mortal Kombat.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

Actually. I just had a thought, probably their best bet would be Netflix since they are offering a huge variety of video content already and that meshes well with their Xbox 360 and Zune businesses.

Tease.

hmmmm purchasing Netflix would be a very interesting acquisition.
