Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

If Sony can afford to cut 30$ on PS2, then they are in position to afford PS3 pricecut, 50$ and maybe even for 100$.

This is so simple, kirby007.

Anyway, like i said in first post, this thread is pointless, till ps3 reach 299$ price. =)

The basic understanding is that Sony needs to make a bold move sooner than later, that's it. If they wait too long (i.e. do nothing for this holidy season) it puts them in a very difficult situation. If they're able to make a price cut along side the releases of some big titles this holiday season it could be the bump they need to start working back up the slide they've been in as of late. Trying to link the current situation of all 3 consoles with their previous family of consoles and determine some sort of trend is useless. i.e. "Microsoft has never supported their old console once a new one was released." This is only their second console for christ sake. Everything has been turned upside down this generation and none of can really say how it's all going to end up until we get there, it's all just speculation.

As a side note related to current demand, I was in Wal-Mart yesterday and did a quick spin through the game section and noticed that the PS3 section had been cut down to 1 half of a double wide display case. You could actually see they put the XBOX 360 sign-board right over top of the Playstation one. I don't think the 360 section gained much (it was 3 double wide cases), but the Nintendo cases pushed everything down. There were actually quite a few PSP games and PS2 games though (both had their own double wide case and both had a few games merge into the center PS3 case). It's getting pretty brutal, at least in the "casual/family oriented" sales land of Wal-Mart anyways.

@crazzyman I can't read your posts, especially your sig. your abreviations and odd grammar doesn't make any sense.

The PS3 simply has to put up or shut up this year. If it does not make it to at least second (for living room consoles) in worldwide sales by January 1, 2010 the game is over.

The defining moment this year will be at E03. If Microsoft equals or beats Sony with announcements then Sony is in trouble because most people expect Microsoft to lose E03 by a wide margin.

If Microsoft goes toe-to-toe in announcements, it will be equivalent to a Microsoft win. Even with a price cut to $299, the PS3 is still $100 over the cheapest 360. As we saw last Christmas price is king, and during a global recession it becomes even more important.

Too bad the ps2 is still selling in most stores, as opposed to the game cube and xbox. If wii and MS come out with new systems, the ps3 will still have it's own shelf space, plus the ps2's to work with. No problem here, keep fishing.

It could be a safe bet.I expect all consoles to end their run by 2012.

I don't think Sony has to catch up that fast. I think they need to be no more than 5 million below the 360 worldwide sales to date to prevent "game over". I think everyone agrees that they need to do better than last place this holiday season though. E3 announcements will help. What does everyone think would happen if they announced God of War 3 is being released this holiday season? Even though I don't personally like the game, can you say "system seller"?
