Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft hyped old games in Q1 2009 and Sony hyped Q4 games in Q1 2009

I noticed that games like Halo 3, Gears 2, Fable 2, and Gta 4 were were in the headlines alot for Microsoft and Sony hyped up GOW3, Mag, Uncharted 2, and Rachet and Clank 2 alot this first half of the year. I also noticed that Halo 3 went from "good sales" to "cultural phenom " satus. I think Microsoft is trying to create "evergreen" games and Sony is is just throwing a bunch of darts to see which one sticks. It might also be why Sony games dont sell as well as Nintendo or Microsoft games. Sony should be pounding home the message of Uncharted 1, Resistence 2, LPB, Socom, and even Heavenly Sword. Not startiing a hype train for games comming 7-8 months from now. There was always E3 to do that. Just my opinon. They missed a chance to turn their games into super stars.

For most Sony games, you should just add 18-20 months from the date of their first unveilment to figure out the release date.

Killzone = 20 months since first trailer (not the E3 2005 pre-rendered one)
god of war 3 = Next March is about 19 months
inFAMOUS = 22 months
Home = 20 months
LBP = 18 months
Afrika - 18 months
White Knight Chronicles - 18 months
Virtually everything announced in 2005 as well

the reason MS hypes Gears, GTA or Fable is because of DLC.... they all got new stuff recently.
gears (maps and soon a special content extension)
GTA (L&D)
Fable (Err I didn't read the articles :p)

Halo will get an sequel/expansion this year too.

Sony's 2 year tactic has been there for a while now... has the opposit effect than the intended on people like me...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I kinda see what you mean by this, but i don't like your statement where it says "It might also be the reason why Sony's game don't sell as well as Nintendo or Microsoft" when the ps2 had how many titles? and Gran Turismo sold 14.87 million copies ,Maybe its because Sony has a more genre of games that's why they release so much, to appeal to everyone rather than just shooters

Xbox is also leading in genres with other games over Sony like in Guitar Hero, Lost Odyssey, Forza 2 (so far), Fable 2, Fallout 3, and GTA 4. Also Sony and Microsoft has 98% of the same library.

Well, a of of advertisement is directed to people that haven't bought the console yet. So it mkaes sense to also advertise games you can buy now, instead of several months in the future.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

While as a first topic post its kind of trollish... I have to say that I agree with you. PArt DLC, part lack of announcements, part the fact people are still willing to buy halo 3 and gears 2...but xbox is indeed milking the older games more than sony...who seems to jump the gun with new hype and announcements as soon as the initial hype game gets released.

Love the darts analogy for sony... +1

Also, what happened with everyones killzone 2 animated gifs? I seems they were replaced with infamous ones now...seems to me like sony fanbase is ok with this approach.

Pretty observant first post there. The industry runs on hype and marketing, and in MS and Sonys case opening sales, so this promotion ahead of release is understandable.
For MS, while there is bonus content as an argument, more realistically its "evergreen" attempt is simply matched by heavy price drops.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
