Forums - Sony - Infamous Demo Impressions

From what I've read in this thread, Infamous really looks like Crackdown 1.5 (minus Vehicle Theft and Driving, Guns and Arsenal)

The question is...
Is it better than the magnificent Crackdown?

Can't wait until May 21th!

Ill hopefully get my hands on the demo tomorrow from a site that gives a few of them away to whomever lives in sweden.

That's pretty cool. Is it from Sony?

Nah.. its from a site called Loading.se, they give out a monthly gaming magazine. And they've partnered up with "Nordic Film" which is responsible for the distribution and marketing of games, films and entertainment up here. And they've given out, to my knowledge, over 300+ infamous demo codes that will release today (my inbox still havent got a code). So hopefully ill be playing the demo later on today. And you're right.. its pretty cool :)

Cheers.

Downloading the demo as we speak.. hell yeah!! Ill give my thoughts on it when im done.

Forevercloud is playing as we speak I think, so he'll post here shortly I guess :p

I just finished the demo. And it ended like a demo should, leaving you wanting more.

Although i somehow got a French version of the demo(?), at first I didnt understand what the hell i was doing since all the instructions were given to me in french, but I managed to figure it out and finish it.

Im not sure about the Karma system though. I thought it would be more complex with situations building up to weather or not you'd become good or bad. I managed to go from being inFamous (with kick ass powers) to a saint (with kick ass powers) within just one mission. It all came down to how many innocent bystanders you finished off throughout your mission.

The story (as far as i could understand it) is leaning towards a "freedom fighter" point of view, with you reclaimng the city. But im not going to go any further into explaining the story, since it would be more of a gut feeling rather than the truth.

The graphics and the style Sucker Punch have chosen to go for is great. The cutscenes enhances the feeling of a comic book game and the colorscheme within the game, with the explosions, power of electricity and hooded enemies with their respective powers, really makes this game pure eye candy.

The funfactor was great. I spent alot of time just blowing things up. (since i had no idea what to do at first.. f*cking French languge!) Also climbing any rooftops i could see and power slaming the world below, throwing "grenades" at people, and frying them with my infinite power of shooting lightning out of my hands. And trust me, the infinite lightning shots are very well implemented because there's alot of enemies and they bring some massive powers and weapons of themselves. But as soon as you throw your grenades or use your force burst thingy, you drain your energybar and have to absorb new energy through lamp posts, phone booths and even other people etc.

Experience points are also given, which i suppose you can spend on new powers in the full game. You get it from killing enemies, using your powers, giving CPR do innocent people that's hurt from you blasting your way through the city etc. And by finding secret objects (like in the GTA series). I found like 7 of them in this small demo, so im guessing there will be alot of them. And as far as i understand there will be alot of sidemissions aswell!?

Gameplay was great. It was easy to just pick up and go nuts, but as you advance you really need to be focused and think fast off your feet to hold back the huge amount of people coming at you from all different angles with some truly powerfull powers of their own. The Parkour was easy and you cant really fail with keeping it fluently as you dash your way up the sides of buildings and sliding on powerlines etc.

Overall a great game so far.

Great!
- Gameplay
- Funfactor
- Graphics
- Color scheme
- Cutscenes
- Variety in missions (although you cant really judge on 3-4 missions)
- Power level up
- The pace of the game

Good enough.
- Karma (I expected something else, might have more of an impact in the full game)
- Some invisible walls ( to help with the Parkour, like you cant just run off a building, you need to jump or push forward + circle to lower yourself to the ledge)

Not so Good!
- The demo ended.. ;)

My 2 cents on the demo!

EDIT: I played the demo again and i waswrong about the karma. The karma system in the demo was just so that you could try em both out. So Karma should be in the Great section. :D

Thanks, guys! Makes it even harder to wait, now.

Man.... I can't wait for this game. Thanks for the demo update.

Yeah the game seems solid overall,I bet it will be the best IP this year.

Why would someone have a PS3 (or 360) and NOT have a high def TV? Well, unless someone wins one or it is given as a gift. I know someone without a high def TV that won a 360 as part of a raffle for a charity.

What did you hate about Crackdown?  inFAMOUS looks like it could be a game you would hate, depending on what you disliked about Crackdown.  Well, unless it was a "360 exclusive" and that was why you hated Crackdown, then it really doesn't matter what is in inFAMOUS.
