This game is a lot of fun. It is a very good brawler/action title along and the best movie-based game I've played in a while.
Pros:
- Visuals are good
- The levels are well design and mostly both fun to play in and seemingly functional (for believability). The designers based around diffent paths
- Level up system is good.
- Easy is easy enough for a button masher to get through, I am working through hard and you have to be smarter about avoiding damage.
- Combos, Throwing, Countering, "Riding", and basic mashing are all used differently against different opponents.
- Special moves are varied.
- The main boss battles are very well scripted with just the right amount of QTE (with one exception, more on that in the notes) and unique strategies.
- Enemies are cool looking and have cool skills.
- Excellent voice work and script
- You are expected to do some puzzles during battle a few times.
Cons:
- Lack of enemy variety
- Same 2-4 mini-bosses over and over. (Mini bosses become standard enemies)
- Linear, using your senses can make finding stuff too easy
- Visuals are clean and well done but nothing amazingly new or inventive
- Crate pushing puzzles.
- Some lines are really cheezy.
Notes
- The story goes places where the movie didn't and does similar points in completely different ways, though if you don't see the movie there will be some major holes.
- There's a little more post-movie ending, which is pretty cool and kinda hints at an independent game sequel... which would be great.
- There's one boss battle where the QTE is to press rapidly for several seconds, I am very bad at this, but for this boss battle it was even faster and longer than the standard for this game. PITA
- Unlockable costumes are unlockable.
- Gambit boss battle is one of the coolest boss sequences involving the environment I have seen.
- Sentinels are awesome!
- Will.I.AM is shown in more action (finally) at the end of the game. I thought it was cool to see him snap a neck.
- Blob battle was cool, though I am still trying to figure out what his X-force team power was before he was fat.
- Zero is cooler in the movie.
- Lack of Ryan Reynolds is disturbing.
I wish I had bought it (instead of renting) because I could see myself going through it again. :(
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
