Forums - Microsoft - Another Xbox 360 price cut in Japan

http://www.canada.com/technology/gaming/Microsoft+Xbox+price+Japan/797790/story.html

TOKYO - Microsoft will cut the price of its Xbox 360 game console in Japan by about 30 per cent, aiming to gain market share from leader Nintendo Co, the Nikkei business daily reported on Monday.

Microsoft, locked in a three-way game console battle with Nintendo's popular Wii and Sony's  PlayStation 3, has been struggling to stir up demand for its Xbox 360 in Japan.

Microsoft will lower the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade model by 8,000 yen ($73.92) to 19,800 yen. The Arcade does not come equipped with a hard drive and is the least expensive of the three Xbox 360 models, the Nikkei said.

maybe i should import one so i can play some of those random japanese games.

19,800.00 JPY = 199.237 USD
Japan Yen United States Dollars
1 JPY = 0.0100625 USD 1 USD = 99.3793 JPY

Its essentially taking the price down to what people pay in the U.S. You couldn't really call it a 'desperate' cut really because its just evening out the price people pay in that country with the U.S.A.

Tease.

I didn't notice how old it was either. But it didn't seem surprisingto me. Microsoft could sell them for $100 in Japan and it wouldn't lose them that much money for how few consoles are sold there.

I think they loose money for making them and not recieving money enought to cover it, they dont loose money when they sell it, so its better if they sell more at that price than selling nothing at that price, its a loss they made before and if they dont sell they dont cover in any way their expenses in production.

This is a article from last year

we shud boycott 360 to get a price cut.
