Interesting stuff, so what does this mean? Did they hold back production or are they intending to produce BC consoles in limited quantities occasionally?

Oh ya, for those who aren't in the know how good is the BC on the 80GBs compared to the 60GB compared to the PS2?

that last sentence completely confused me

How good is the BC of the 80GB SKU

A. Compared to playing games on a PS2
B. Compared to playing games on a PS3 60GB

Does that clear it up?

I thought we already had this thread?

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

I've never seen it on a 60GB PS3 but it definitely looks way better then using a PS2 on an HDTV. I watched my friend who I shared the system with play FFXII on the PS3 and it looked way better then the PS2 on an HDTV...of course he only had composite cables so I don't know if components do much better.

You're right I think. GOW 2 has a PS3 HD mode as well IIRC. I saw many cool ways to improve the performance of PS2 games on my 60GB.

60 GB PS3's should actually have the PS2 chip or whatever (EMOTION ENGINE!!!!) so they should run all games with the addition of a upscaler/smoother, though I suspect the virtual memory cards are probably more prone to data corruption than physical memory cards (then again, physical memory cards and data corruption was pretty common for me). 80 GB is through emulation, so there will be games that either don't run at all or ones that have very minor to game-breaking glitches. I have the 80 GB and can play most games just fine, but some games like Ar Tonelico 2 don't run and others like Star Ocean 3have glitches that crash the game (though SO3's can be avoided). The 80 GB should play most PS2 games, but if you own only that and no PS2, it would probably be a good idea to check compatibility through various forums before you buy a new PS2 game. PS2 games do look better being played on a PS3 from my experience.
