Forums - Gaming - The ps3...has it lost any chance of it getting 2nd or 3rd place?

Hey, don't be so hard on leo, he is a cool kid.

Even when the PS3 has no chance at all in getting 1st and remote chances of getting 2nd...

But seriously, if you like the PS3, you shouldn't care if it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, whatever. The important thing is is that you stick to what you like. If it has good games, even when there are only few, you are good... is not like you are gonna buy 100 games.

Same could be said about the 360.

Also, ps2 sales are making Sony money, which in turn allows for ps3 price cuts. Turns out well for the consumers, no?

If you look at their financial reports, it's not nearly enough.

They're using other divisions to cover for the losses overall. They're still doing better than MS and the Xbox/360. They haven't made a profit from their Xbox division since it was formed almost 10 years ago.

Can you think before typing seriously. You say the other division within the company is covering them. Well Microsoft is a software company remember. Does Windows ring a bell. They are the only reliable Operating system in computers today. Please don't start with money cause I will run down what Microsoft makes.

Who cares if they don't make profit. Microsoft is just laughing hard considering Sony is last and is losing money per unit every console that is sold. So Sony is in a hole this gen.

You don't think I know that?  I was just pointing out that a company can still operate despite it's gaming division being in the red.  After all, it's only one division.  I was using MS as an example of this.

And who cares if they don't make a profit?  LMAO, that's the whole reason the companies entered into the console race - to make a profit.  If a company continues to lose money in a specific area for an extended period of time, stock holders become unhappy, and the division is either completely reformed in the hopes of turning a profit, or else completely dropped.

We don't have to worry about either company dropping their gaming divisions though, because Sony has a history of dipping into the red with the launch of a new console, and it allways turns out good in the end, and MS's strategy revolved around being in the red for many years after the XBox was launched, in the hopes of making money come the third generation they took part in (i.e. next gen).

I understand, I agree with your points but generally. I believe its going to be hard for the PS3 to get past the 360. And considering you said fans are waiting for the PS3 for a price cut. How long can they wait for a decent price cut?? How long? Some of those users are going to get fed up and switch to the cheaper 360. I think you said in another post that since the 360 is cheaper in Japan its still not selling good. Well its not and with the original Xbox giving them a bad taste, they felt that the 360 was awful. But seeing that 360 is getting the games, Japan is actually changing a different a apporach to the 360. Right now the 360 sold better than the original Xbox in Japan. So we are seeing improvement, but not no PS3 numbers in Japan.

I usually never hold flags for others. Fanboyism is exactly that. I approve your decision of not being a fanboy. But will you only play a system if it is the first in sales? Choose your games and then choose the system, not the other way around. If you think there are better games elsewhere, I suggest you to change systems.

To the topic creator: What the hell is wrong with you? Just to let you know its the games that make the console not just the console.

I think that the PS3 has a chance of passing the Xbox360...eventually...

Anyway, Leo, you need to relax. You don't need to get all depressed because the PS3 isn't doing as everyone expected. Just have fun with the games that come out with it and don't care about the sales too much. The PS3 is a great system, you spent a ton of money on that thing! Be proud of you purchase and don't give up hope just yet.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

Where is Leo-J?

I hope he don't do something stupid X_X.

I know, right?

Not gonna read all of the posts but, PS3 won't be a failure I'm almost sure of it, on brand alone it'll be okay just like N64 and GCN. I don't think it will be #1 though.

I also have to say I give sony till 2009 after the 2008 Christmas season dies to garner support otherwise it may very well be doomed. See it's powerful fine, but if developers ignore it for 2008 only releasing already planned projects and ports, it won't get much love in 2009 because it's adoption rate lead to nothing being developed in 2008 for the next year. That would contribute to lower sale which would contribute to less support. It's a terrible cycle but we all know it.

I'd say if by 2009 start Sony doesn't have a higher install it may very well come in third this gen. I do have it fixed at a VERY healthy 2nd possibly even 1st though and I think they can possibly pull through but the clock is ticking. I have the 360 at an almost certain 3rd place..

Another note is.. I was a Nintendo fan through N64, GCN, Virtual boy... Gameboy Color and many many bad times, if you're gonna give up over the PS3, man you never were much of a fan..Root for your team, ESPECIALLY when they need it.

Also keep in mind you can always watch the other teams, but always leave your love where it truely lies.
