Forums - Gaming - Who makes better Platformers? Konami, Capcom, Nintendo, Rare or Sega?

I think a lot of people pick Nintendo because they don't know/play platformers outside of Mario, Sonic, and DKC series. I'd pick them too if I was comparing them to Rare and Sega work. lmao

It's too hard but Nintendo is surely no. 1.

RARE and Capcom platformers are superb though.

I can't really call Castlevania or Contra, platformers in the traditional sense but they're both wonderful series. WTF? LOL

SEGA has been awful since after Sonic Advance 1.

SmokedHostage, I read from your profile that you're only 19 years old. Let me inform you about Contra and Castlevania.

Castlevania is the definition of a Platformer. In Castlevania you jump from platform to platform and just like in Mega Man, you 'shoot' by hurling axes and you fight a boss in the end of each level. In Contra you jump from platforms upwards or down to platforms below. You shoot enemies just like in Mega Man and fight bosses at the end of each level.

:/

Castlevania and Contra may be platformers in the technical sense, but that isn't the focus of the gameplay nor are they prime examples of the "platforming" genre.  It's a moot point though, as no one can challenge Nintendo's dominance in the ever-shrinking category of such games.

Contra is a Run and Gun Platformer which is a sub-genre of the platformer games. Old Castlevania games are considered as platformer (expept maybe Castlevania II which is more of an Action-Adventure game) while the new one are Action-RPG.

Nintendo is without the shadow of a doubt the best platformer maker.

Just like the people who think FFVII/VIII/IX/X/XII is the best FF because they played it first/don't know the older ones, right? There's simply no way they have played the other games which are so obviously superior. I mean we all know quality is objective, don't we? That's why we trust reviews and shit.

I always think of Castlevania as an action adventure side scroller, a genre shared with Metroid. I also think of Contra as a shoot-em up.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I don't care about Final Fantasy, so I don't know which one's the best. My favorite is III for DS, and the first FF I played was X.

Yep, all good games, too. I completed them all 100% for both the SNES and the GBA.

But they're not enough to put Rare above any of the devs on my list.

I was just trying to make a point. FF was just an example.
