Forums - Gaming - What game do you think will win the graphics award for 2009?

@Selnor

Yeah, there were quite entusiastic user comments of those videos. Of course the same was true of RE5, with many users claiming it was "the best looking game ever".  And now I can't help noticing you haven't even nominated it for the best graphic of 2009.

- you said "And even the press are finding it hard to believe Capcoms visuals with a year left to develop". I actually read that videogamer article you linked, and the exact quote is:

"And then it hits you: Lost Planet 2 looks absolutely stunning. The graphics are, by a clear margin, the best on show at Capcom's Captivate 09 event. In fact, and this might be a bold claim, Lost Planet 2, even at this early stage, might just be the best-looking Capcom game ever made. The player character models are wonderfully detailed, their spiky armour, outlandish helmets and big guns as captivating as the jungle scenery itself... The grass - the grass! It sways in the wind and alters shape as player boots leave their mark. The level of fidelity on offer, the detail of the player characters and the lushness of their surroundings almost lends the game an Unreal Engine 3 feel, sans the shininess." (emphasis mine)

They like it a lot, they seem surprised that Capcom is pulling out such visuals to rival with UE3. Quite a far fetch from calling it a  kz2 killer or a new graphics benchmark tout court.

- then there's the video you linked with the comment "Lastly watch the video here and listen to the gametrailers guy. He said when this video was first shown some of the press thought it might be for the next generation of consoles. Just shows you this must be even more impressive in person."

But actual quote from the video  (it's hosted on GT, but it's by a user not by the redactors thus I find it misleading calling him a "gametrailers guy"):

"The graphics look good. I was actually reading comments where people thought this was being developed for either the PS3 or the next generation 360... I'm surprised that people could actually think that this could be that far advanced. Yes, the graphics look good, but not that breathtaking"

So he's basically agreeing with those of us who are saying that it looks very good, it's not that groundbreaking visually, it's generating insane -and in his and my opinion unjustified- hype among people online. And people online - not press, mind you - are hardly a difficult crowd to frenzy into hype :)

Nobody is talking badly of this game, visually, and why should anybody? It looks good. It's quite clearly an engine optimized for fast multiplayer and cooperative action, it has some nice scenery and big boss battles, though it takes some flashy cheap shortcuts. Maybe in a year it will look incredibly.

Atm I would say Killzone 2 would get 100% of the votes in regards to best graphics in console game for 2009. But we need to wait an extra 7 months or so for all the games to be released within 2009. UnCharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 may be candidates for best graphics in console game.

More like 99% cause it won't have mine...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
