Forums - Microsoft - Hype Thread: All Things Magna Carta 2

Hey guys G-Value and I thought it be cool to make a thread on all things Magna Carta 2 so to kick things off I'm going to be adding as much info as I can find on the game as well as G-Value. Any discussion about the game leading up to it's release should go here as well.

What Took Magnacarta 2 So Long To Develop?

By Spencer . April 30, 2009 . 5:48pm

Part of the reason is Magnacarta 2 bares little resemblance to its predecessor. The combat system has real time battles, all of the characters are new, and the game is being built on the Xbox 360. Why else? Yoshihisa Kanesaka a key member of the Banpresto division tells us and explains how Magnacarta 2 connects with Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata.

How come Magnacarta 2 took so long to develop?

Yoshihisa Kanesaka, Manager of 1/CS Production Department 1: It’s been about four years and eight months since the announcement of beginning development on this project. One of the biggest reasons as to why it took so long to develop this game is we wanted to build a new battle system from the ground up. This game has a completely new battle system.

The second reason is the illustrator, Kim Hyung Tae, wanted to make sure the models that were developed very closely match his illustrations drafted for the character design. We put a lot of energy into these two things from the ground up which is why it took so long.

How come the character art in Magnacarta 2 looks different from Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata?

With regards to the differences from the first game, even though Kim Hyung Tae is designing the character design for the second one it is a completely new world with completely new characters. It has a different feel to it and that is why the illustrations are different.

What inspired the story?

In order to continue the theme of the previous games, I wanted to make a game that followed the previous themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny. That became the focus and inspiration.

Are there any connections between Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata and Magnacarta 2?

The three main elements that are common throughout the series are: The stories have a heavy theme of love and hatred. The second is there is an elemental power in this world called “kan” it represents fire, water, wind, and lightning – it existed in its predecessors and exists in this game as well. The third is the presence of an absolute power called “Magnacarta”. That has been a common theme in all of the Magna Carta titles up to now and that have been carried over. Other than that there are no connections.

How does the “kan” power work in the battle system?

The kan that’s used in battle… essentially there are some characters that are stronger than other using elements aspects. Just like the first one some characters are associated with a particular kan element while others are associated with a different kind [of kan]. Using the element that is powerful in a particular region would all you to conduct battle more effectively. For instance, if you have an environment strong with lightning kan you want to use a character associated with lightning kan.

Here’s What Magnacarta 2 Sounds Like With English

By Spencer . April 30, 2009 . 6:48am

You’ve seen the Japanese trailer of Magnacarta 2. Now watch the US trailer and sample the English voice acting.

Watch closely and you can also catch a few new scenes with the beast-like Argo. You might be wondering if Namco Bandai plans on keeping the original voice acting. I asked and the answer I got was “no.”

I might have to look into this game more..

A new RPG from Namco Bandai for 2009, exclusively for Xbox 360.

April 28, 2009 - Xbox 360 gamers might be pleased to know Namco Bandai is bringing a new role-playing game, Magnacarta 2, this year exclusively to Microsoft's console. Built using Unreal Engine 3, the sequel is being developed by SoftMax, the studio responsible for the first Magna Carta: Tears of Blood, which was released back in 2005 for Sony's PlayStation 2.

Magnacarta 2 will follow a new, original story set in the world of the war-torn Lanzheim Continent and involve a male character named Juto, who cannot remember his past. The game will contain character designs by Korean artist Hyung-Tae Kim, and will include fully-voiced CGI cutscenes to deliver parts of its narrative.

For its battle system, the game will mix strategic turn-based and real-time elements. When heading into a fight, there'll be no loading screen -- everything will happen in the same environment, bits of which can be used by players in battle. During a fight players can freely switch which party members they're controlling, and customize the AI of those which aren't being directly exercised. There'll also be a free-roaming camera implemented to make it easier for players to scope out the game world.

Namco Bandai is saying the title will provide over 40 hours of gameplay, and handed out a few more specific gameplay details. Players will earn Kamonds by beating up monsters that can be applied to power up weapons and generate new items. With each weapon comes a different style of fighting, which, according to Namco Bandai, will offer a set of special abilities tailored to the weapon. Some of the special abilities will require timed button presses, and once a powerful over-drive mode is initiated, players can smack around foes with their most formidable skills. To add more variety, an elemental magic system called KAN can be used during fights and to manipulate objects in the environments.

The battle system mixes real-time elements with turn-based strategy.

That's what we've got for now, so if you haven't already, head out over our video page to see the game in motion or our image gallery for some new screens and art. The current release window is the third quarter of 2009.

Magnacarta 2 Charters North American Release

By Spencer . April 29, 2009 . 5:09pm

We’ve been following Magnacarta 2 forever and its coming to North America soon. At their Editor’s day Namco Bandai announced the Xbox 360 exclusive RPG will come out here in “Q3 2009″. Reasonable turnaround time considering Magnacarta 2 comes out in Japan in August.

Magnacarta 2 tells a tale of politics and love on the Lanzheim Continent. As you can tell from the screenshots the combat system has been completely refined from Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. When the game transitions from the field to battle, Juto and his party can use the environment and interact with objects lying around. Characters also have different skills and moves based on their equipped weapon. Be sure to collect and craft them all! New arms can be made and enhanced by collecting Kamonds from defeated monsters.

Don’t worry if you missed Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. While both games bear the Magna Carta name they are set in different worlds. I spoke with Yoshihisa Kanesaka, Manager of Production Department 1 at Namco Bandai, who will elaborate more about this in an exclusive Siliconera interview.
