Forums - Sony - Will the PS3 sink below 100k worldwide?

With the global economy worsening and the PS3's post FFXIII demo sales winding down, is it possible the console will sink back below 100k sales per week worldwide?

If it did, would that be the point at which Sony would have to consider a price drop regardless of financial consequence?  Or would they simply ride out the next season or two accepting that they have a barely moving flagship console and attempt to cut price in the holiday season?

I really doubt they go by weekly numbers.

It would take a few bad months to force a price cut.

Actually Infamous does look interesting.

Most titles dont "sell systems" in terms of a noticeable increase in sales immediately. Those that do tend to "sell" 10-20k with exceptions like Halo and GT.

But ultimately most good games contribute to a maintenance of sales and an eventual and gradual uprise.

You mean like the last few?

I think it will but it won't stay at that point for long considering some good software releases for the PS3. The question is will the PS2 be outselling the PS3 in America during that time.

FootballFan - "GT has never been bigger than Halo. Now do a comparison between the two attach ratios and watch GT get stomped by Halo. Reach will sell 5 million more than GT5. Quote me on it."

PS2 will beat it in NPD

maybe

Repent or be destroyed

My guess is that Sony are going to ride it out and bank on games to sell systems. The simple reason I think this is the case is because of the huge bump in support the PSP has recieved as of late. Sony have probably gone down the route of not going for a price drop but instead using that money to increase support for the PSP.

If it works out for Sony the PSP will be selling very nicely in the west again and in the future Sony will be able to cut the price of the PS3 and still make the money they are on it at this price.

:/

Selling near what the half its price 360 is, so no not bad.  Just what the current economic state will allow.

Aint the 360 doubling PS3 sales what forced the first PS3 price cut ?

Well, Golden Week is coming up in Japan (30-40k?) and I don't think it can go much lower in America and Europe, so no. Not in the next few weeks at least.

All consoles are pretty bad. 360 is barely doing any better than the PS3 and Wii is at its worst in... well, ever.

Its quite probable the PS3 will sit at or under the 100k mark once the Japanese sales fall to the usual 10-16k range. So yes, I will say for at least a couple of weeks it will sink below 100k.

Tease.
