As with SARS, Bird flu, etc., the media will manage to completely blow things out of proportion and cause more damage by getting people to worry than this "pandemic" ever could have by itself.

I'm not certain, but isn't Avian Influenza(bird flu) only bird to human and not human to human. This on the other hand, is human to human which allows for it to spread easier.(I'm not certain though) I do agree though, it is definately being overexaggerated. Most people people who got better health care seem to be doing fine.
From what i getheed from the news, the swine flu is a combination ofthe following:
2 different flu's that affect pigs
bird flu
human flu
for humans it's dangerous in that sense that swine and humans have similar a disease resistance system and what these illnesses can crossover from one species to the next.
The funny thing is that this combo turned ultimately into a h1n1 model, a prtein that we have known for some time and thus have the information we need to combat it. Some of the SARS meds that turned out ineffective against that flu type are very effective against the swine flu, or so they say.

so far there's only 8 deaths all are from Mexico(the kid who died in Texas was from Mexico) don't panic
http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/
http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/en/index.html
The flu is thought to have originated in Mexico. There has only been 1 death in the United States due to swine flu- the person that died was a toddler. Mexico is the country that has had the most deaths with something like 168 suspected deaths.
The media has really blown the whole story out of proportion.
132 suspected swine flu cases in about 18 states (America)
well, the thing with mexico is that i can't help but wonder how many of the deceased had any kind of medical help at all. if they were people from the slums or maybe someone who could afford medical treatment.
i mean, c'mon, the regular flu is deadly enough if you don't have the means to treat it.

This. There is NO need for a stupid mask. Youre just paranoid if you wear a mask.
Swine Flu is for the weak.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
Ummm, no, the mask actually is a very good way to avoid getting the swine flu. Of course that's only if you ARE among others who have contracted the disease.
@ akuma, hell yeah, now anthrax is a manly mans thing.
