I hear a lot of good things about Grandia, so I'm going to recommend that over Tales.

The alternatives are Brave Story: New Traveler (PSP) Grandia (PS1), Suikoden IV (PS2) and Tales of Symphonia (GC). And don't just say "play this or that", motivate why I should play it. Alright?

girls?? where??
you should play grandia that game its a classic great characters and story. avoid suikoden iv if you are not a suikoden fan.

This is an example of a game that is severely overhyped.
Its great story is brutally tortured by awful pacing, beaten half to death by bland environments and animations, and finally put out of its misery by bipolar gameplay that can't figure out whether its a dating sim or a generic dungeon crawler.
Honestly, the creators should have just made an anime instead of a game.

People dont look at it as even being close to Chrono Trigger, but it is my all time favorite RPG. If you like turn-base and silent heroes, this games for your If you like great music and awesome storylines, this games for you None of the above, dont play the game and i die a little inside because yet another person doesnt recognize the greatness of this game.

I do love all those things so you bet I will play it. If it will be now or at a later point I haven't decided, but you can be sure about that I will play it. So don't go and die a little inside

Already played it (and beat it)
And I think it's one of the best, if not the best, JRPG this side of the millennium. It's so good words can't make it justice.
Well, I have decided now which game to play. I picked Brave Story to play first because I have some games I have to review soon, so it's relatively short length sounds good. I really like to just focus on one game at a time. After that I will instantly pick up Grandia because, at least in this thread, it has got the most praise. So I’m really curious about it. Then it’s off to Tales of Symphonia so I have time to play it through before Vespeira. And Suikoden IV… Well some other time.
Thanks for all the help
Time to recharge the PSP.
Lost Odyssey.
If you want a mature JRPG that is...
Epic story, awesome music, deep battle mechanics.
Made by Final Fantasy creators.
