i dunno, i don't use commercials to let me know what to buy... and i'm one of the few that really liked the absolutely bizarre play b3yond commercials, though they should have done it differently. i thought there was gameplay in the commercial of HS anyways? i'll have to youtube it.

Well, I think the fact that the Wii commercials show gameplay at least makes perfect sense. Although the games don't look great graphically, the entire premise of the Wii is to show new ways to play the games. So, of course, they are always going to want to show people playing them in order to show them how the Wii makes it different than playing the game on any other system.

I know you weren't necessarily saying they were bad, but you were wondering if the fact that they use FMV affects sales. I was saying that I don't think so, but the fact that the commercials themselves are pretty bad does affect sales.

This has been true of Nintendo commercials for years, though.  Even prior to the release of the Nintendo 64, ads for Nintendo games have always been rich with in-game footage.  Ads that don't show gameplay always bother me, because I could really care less what kind of commercial you can come up with, I want to see the damn game.

I saw a heavenly sword commercial during the dallas/miami game and MOST was FMV but there was a short cut in the middle that looked like true gameplay to me... Maybe I was just fooled, but it sure looked like actual gameplay.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

The tactic of using FMV has worked on at least one person: I have a friend who HAS to have a PS3 now because he thinks Heavenly Sword actually looks like the commercial.

The game looks great, but not as good as what they show in the TV spot.
