This ignorant post explains why you post nonsensical fantasies like the OP...

Actually I'm not sure you could handle reality.

No, because Nintendo expanded the market to casual, there are more of them then traditional gamers.

Without taking the Americas market into consideration, this past week, the 360 and PS3 combined have already sold a combined 65,022 more units than the Wii.

EDIT:  Actually, this is more of a response to ookaze's post.

Not really the fact that this new demographic only buys a handful of titles in very few genres has to be considered.  If Nintendo had really expanded the market, then you would be seeing their mature games like No More Heroes or Madworld selling as many copies as Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit, and that isn't happening.

This is so stupid, your assuming those that baught a PS3 would switch to xbox if all that shit above was true. I for one would never, as 360 hardware has been a piece of crap from day one. Sure they have fixed most the issues, but how many games have I missed out on because of this long wait?

Then you have fanboys who will never go multiplatform and die with the one brand they always baught.

Then you also have people who hate Microsoft.

Some of those PS3 would have been baught as Blu-Ray players, do to shops pushing them as a multimedia device for homes rather then gaming consoles.

So many factors to consider before you can make a call like that.

I'm assuming that if there wasn't a Playstation console as any kind of a major player in Western videogames and that if Nintendo's next gen console is only about as powerful in respect to today's PS3 and 360 as the Wii is to the original xbox while Microsoft's next console is affordable yet the kind of machine that could easily more than run Crysis at its highest settings, then the kinds of third parties and third party games we haven't seen on the Wii this gen would still be being made in large numbers on Microsoft's next console while they probably wouldn't be on Nintendo's next console.

I'm also assuming that Microsoft is able to find a way to both be able to hold their own as family console and as a game system for more mature kinds of games (like PS2 was able to do), while Nintendo's next console will continue to be seen as no more of a home for mature / hardcore games than the Wii is now where higher rated and critically accepted mature games like Madworld and No More Heroes fail to sale more than a fraction of the number of games that games like Wii Sports do.

Oh really? Why do you think they baught the Wii, to play those few games you said. Doesn't mean the Wii would have sold any less, considering that is what they want to play anyway.

Red

They expanded the market to casual, the hardcore crowd has already reached it's peak.  Madworld and No More Heroes are not very good examples. Considering they are aimed at a nichie market and Madworld is also blakc and white and a VERY short game. In other words no value for money.

Look at CoD:WaW a shit crappy gimped port with missing features (but a well known established franchise) has sold over 1 million.

RE4: a bloody port and 4th version of the game sold 1.6million roughly. again a well known franchise and also a great game.

So yer if people bring out their well known franchises that arent gimped or B grade quality, they can sell on Wii more then the two examples I have given above.

Not to mention the traditional gamer (ie the hardcore) have basically ignored the Wii and won't accpet change becuase they are afraid. There is nothing wrong with motion controls.

People like this will NOT be able to survive in the work force long if change comes around in their office because they will be to closed minded to change.

No More Heroes and Madworld are among the best games on the Wii just look at their ... sorry I forgot. It doesn't matter what any critic says about Nintendo games because each and every one of them is holy.

That's why they all continue to keep the Wii far and away the best selling console in Japan each week.

If there wasn't a playsation then Nintendo and SEGA would still be fighting it out lol.

but lets play your game. If Sony didn't exist,

Nintendo wouldnt of got killed some much on the gamecube, they probably would of gotten most the support then and won actually, because all the japanese games went to ps2 instead of gamecube.

Nintendo would have one competitor this gen.

Nintendo would play it safe and release a HD console without motion controls and get all the exclusives and Win again, because japanese would still buy Nintendo other xbox, so all Japanese games would be on Nintendo first. ie FFXIV, MGS5 DQIX etc.., which alot of people play in the west anyway. Then you have Nintendo game line up which people would buy.

So suddenly your exclusives list as good as it is starts getting overshadowed by Nintendos games + 3rd party Japenese game. But if the HD Wii was killing the 360 then those exlucises too would go multiplatform or move to Nintendo. So all you would really have left is Halo 4.

This is my version of hwo things would have folded out, but we will never know as assumptions are not reality.

What do you think this would mean for the Japanese game industry as a whole?  Do you think Microsoft would have much interest in pursuing Japanese games on their system if they didn't need them to be the dominant console?

If Microsoft dominates the market they will continue to support Japanese games period.
