a 99 dollar xbox wouldnt make much money lol-it would loose quite a lot i imagine, so i dont think they d do that. If the ps3 has had its production costs cut enough then the price cut will help no end.

And the PSone which went as low as $50. And you may recall, the reason why the Core/Arcade existed was coined as "the way to get to $99 as soon as possible", that's the exact reason why MS ditched Nvidia and Intel and went ATI/IBM, their hardware is extremely cost reductive, hence why the more powerful Gamecube was cheaper to make/sell then the less powerful PS2.

It depends on what the PS3 does, obviously, if PS3 drops $50, they will just drop the same and pocket the change the new shrink brings them, if it's $100, they may wait and see or just match it. Either way, they are in a better financial position to match whatever Sony drops if need be.

Plus, they've never dropped the price by a full $100. Why would they do it now, when it would effectively cut the price of the Arcade in half, and when it's been less than a year since the previous price cut?
|
I would be a full year at the End of August/beginning of September, which is only 4 and a half months away, MS drops price whenever they have a significant cost reduction (read die shrink) and this year heralds the biggest most cutting edge die shrink the console will ever see, never before and never again. Since $50 was the usual before and this is the biggie, $70-100 is likely.
