Forums - Gaming - Is Halo reponsable for many good games today ? Yes or No ?

The way I look at it is that all the sci-fi/space based FPS really owe to Half-Life and all the World War II Shooters owe to Medal Of Honor (really wish they would put out a decent game again) Does this mean i dont think Halo is influential? not at all, as far as a system seller i think just about every franchise in existence not named Mario or Zelda is not in that same league

Half-Life 2 is nothing without Halo.

Tease.

This=Retarded

Halo was heavily influenced by the original half-life so even if Half-Life 2 was heaily influenced by Halo (which it wasnt) it would still really be influenced by the first Half-Life

lawl, HL2 was everything when it was first announced over a decade ago. HL2 was released late due to hackers stealing source code wihch made Valve remake it. Guess what though, HL2 broght with it the greatest game engine this industry knows.

Halo's direct influences were games like Unreal Tournament, WolfenStein 3D, SiN, Quake, Doom, Half-Life, and many other great titles before it.

I think people forget that the original Halo came out in 2001. It was far more advanced than every game before it even most FPS games years after. It was a huge hit as well so I'm sure it inspired many games.

I beg to differ, Halo didn't advance much the formula that was already perfected by Half-Life, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament and Quake 3, released two years prior to Halo. Halo revolutionised the FPS genre on the consoles indeed, but computer FPS have done the same things or even better than Halo did at the time.

^^ This.   Halo was a good game but it really didn't do anything that wasn't done on PC's years prior.  Sony and Microsoft were gunning for good FPS games.   Microsoft just struck gold.    I would say Bond/Perfect Dark for the N64 were far more influential on the genre on consoles in general though.

LOL.

This is your typical humor right?

So it's safer to say that ID software is responsible for many good games today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Anyway, may as well go back to basics, since Valve admitted that Doom was their inspiration for Half-Life.

Therefore Doom > All.

Ive never been a fan of the series, but isnt Halo credited for starting the health regen thing? Instead of picking up health packs? That alone is pretty cool.

Halo started that?? Fuck Halo then. Health regen is the biggest bullshit ever. Sure, health packs may be a little bit unrealistic, but it doesn't make the combat itself any different than it should be. Full health regen after a few seconds is the worst thing to happen to shooters ever, that I can think of. It completely invalidates certain guns and playing styles, and makes it hard for a shooter to be anything other than one of those 'macho-man in power armour wading through thousands of enemies thing'
