I didn't get my first hip-hop album until probably 3 years ago. Up until that point, I only downloaded various singles and owned a couple rap-metal esc albums. But I try to incorporate variety into my music collection.
Not knowing what I would like at the time, I decided to play it safe and get "mama said knock you out" by ll cool j. It was ok, nothing surprise IMO.
Since then, I've picked up:
black star: self titled, blue scholars: self titled, el-p: I'll sleep when you're dead, talib kweli: quality, the roots: rising down, q-tip: the renaissance, tech n9ne: killer, ghostface killah: fishscale
I'm thinking of picking up in the future:
talib kweli: train of thought, mos def: blacker on both sides, jay z: the blueprint/the black album, the roots: game theory, cannibal ox: in cold vein, tech n9ne: everready, ghostface killah: supreme clientele
Any suggestions or stuff that ya'll are into?
