They really need a better spu

an SPU wouldnt help them at all.. why would they want to have one?

AMD is royally screwed versus Intel it seems. Intel is shipping 32nm processors at the moment. Westmere dual-cores have hyper threading making them 10+% faster then Core 2s that have the same speed.

AMD might control start pulling control in the GPU market though. Sadly the HD4890X2 is practically worthless. It will be the fastest GPU on the market but it will require its own power supply to run it since 1GB models are suspected to need 370w of power, and GPU manufacturers are planning 4GB models which means 400w requirements. CrossFireX with the HD4890X2 would mean around 800w needed.

Even I cant believe that AMD has managed to make a GPU that is less energy efficient then Nvidia's GPUs...

Don't believe those rumors, there will be no such thing as a 4890X2.

Why? because Rv870 (HD5850/HD5870) is expected to go in mass production in July already meaning there will be an HD 5870X2 shortly after. Why the hell would they need an 4890X2? To have the crown for 2 months? ehh no

whats the power consumption on that? I hope it isnt like the rumored 4980X2...

They're 40nm chips, so nowhere near the figures you posted. And btw, with current technology, 300W+ per pci-e slot is not even possible. So IDK where you're getting your 370W per card figure from. It's not even possible.

I thought PCIe 2.0 was capable of handling more than that. But I got the info off some tech site. No idea which one. It was talking about future GPUs and had the HD4980X2 before the HD5xxx series launch.

thats still insane. Think about it. If you have a motherboard with 4 PCIe slots and 4 ATi GPUs in CrossFire. Each having a wattage of around 250w required each. That would be 1kw of power needed. That would still be retarded and you know that the CrossFire platform can do 4 GPUs in tandem.

It is retarted, but hey, if people want power, they want power. :)

Quad Sli and Quad Crossfire are not that popular though, so It doesnt damage the world or anything :D
