Halo, Madden, Guitar Hero, Grand Theft Auto, anything that can sell more than 10 million copies.

Save the discussion and analysis for after we get a list of sample games please. What games do people consider casual?

Valkyria Chronicles! Ikaruga! Root Beer Tapper!

This study is to help people like Onyxmeth understand the distinction as he clearly is one of the people who insist their is none. Please exercise some restraint, Onyxmeth, and give us a chance to build a case before you make fun.

Nope. A casual game is not determined by sales. I will now add to the list to further distinguish what a casual game is and refute The Ghost of RubangB's samples:

Hail to the Chimp

Ok. Let me know when you've built your case so I can make fun.

I'm not saying games are casual because they sell 10 million.  I'm saying games sell 10 million because they're casual.  At least, they have "casual appeal," which is part of "broad appeal" or "mass appeal" or "it's fun for everybody because it's just fun dammit."

Here is a list of million sellers.  http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php  Only 31 games have broken 10 million sales.  Of those 31 games, how many would you say are strictly hardcore games?  Or are they... casual?  Or are they hardcore and casual at the same time?  Or does that list make the terms meaningless?  Or what?

No, I do not equivocate mass appeal with casual. To me they are not the same thing at all. At this early stage of trying to describe what casual is since noone else has contributed, I will say that they have some sort of simplistic and extremely static gameplay.

So you agree that Halo, Madden, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto are casual games?

You should also make a study to help people understand the distinction between their, there, and they're.

I agree with scottie actually, it's the gamer, not the game that's casual. Go watch King of Kong for an excellent example of this.

Edit: Aww, he got banned as I was typing this, so much for his study.

CIHYFS?

Ok, how about shovelware then? Is there no such thing as shovelware, just shovelpeople?
