It's interesting to see how he is able to 'control' the masses.

What about Ronald Reagan? He was pretty powerful and influential.

And Freddie gets mad props just for the Highlander theme.

Not as a celebrity (presidents, world leaders, ambassadors, etc., are not considered celebrities). His career as an actor wasn't too influential either.

Throughout the 80's, Queen continued to consistently tour soldout shows worldwide, and I think they're more popular than Michael Jackson in Africa and many other non-English speaking countries.

But I'd say that for the last 20 years or so, Michael Jackson has become more "infamous" than "influential." He hasn't started crazes of molesting kids and waggling babies from balconies. He's somehow managed to craft his current image into a cross between Courtney Love and Howard Hughes.

If we can only go back 30 years though, we don't get to count "Bohemian Rhapsody" either. That knocks Queen down a peg.

Have you seen any of his films?  I have.  Nothing to brag about really.  Definitely didn't influence acting or film in any way.

note how Queen are at 1 and 7, while MJ is at 8 and 9

FM was active between 1970 and 1991

MJ has been active since 1967

I know I wouldn't be bragging about it if I had seen his films.
