The meat argument is ridiculous.

But it is still more relevant to this debate than the race argument.

You seriously think that comparing civil rights movements to civil rights movements is irrelevant, while comparing gay marriage to veganism is relevant but ridiculous?

I didnt say that veganism was relevant.  I said it was more relevant.  Given how little relevance race has to this debate, you can consider them both irrelevant.

 Why? Most people who are gay are born that way. Probably well over 90%. I have never met a gay person who has chosen to be gay.

I've never seen any credibly evidence supporting the notion that 0-5 year olds are emphatically gay or straight...

Of course you've never seen any credible evidence if you've never looked for it.

I was completely disgusted by girls at age 3, because they had cooties, but it was obvious that I was straight because I didn't think boys had cooties.  Boys were neutral to me.  If you really think that nobody is aware of their sexuality at age 3, go ask 10 people when they first realized they liked girls or boys, and see how many of them say 2, 3, 4, or 5.  Anything later is some serious denial.

When I was 6 I felt my mates balls as a matter of routine.  Given my straight nature, I'd say it turned out to be largely irrelevant, along the same lines as most of the points you've made in this thread.

@first part:

People like you make race relevant by using similar "separate but equal" arguments to discriminate against gays as were previously used to discriminate against racial minorities.

@second part:

Feeling your mate's balls was you being young and trying to learn about balls and your friend, and may have been sexually exploratory in some way, but definitely not sexuality-defining.  So THAT is irrelevant.  Sexuality is defined by who you love, not whose balls you touch.  I could go grab every nutsack on my block, and it wouldn't turn me or anybody else gay.

Starcraft, comparing it to the race is mostly about the attitudes of the people. You have the same kinds of attitudes as people who thought interacial marriage was bad.

Yeah I don't know if it was a question that should have been asked at the pageant either, but I watched an interview with Miss USA afterwards when she was questioned about several of her opinions surrounding different aspects of the situation, and her responses were much more respectful and logically supportive. I think that NC won because she was a better candidate.

And going for the "secular law" vs. "religious law" argument is folly. It's no different than my arguing that I think socialized medicine is bullshit. Different ideals, different opinions. Faith is universal; whether you put it under organized religion is no different than socialism, which is no different than Libertarianism, and that's no different than Communism. We're all the same.

Yes, we all have faith in something. I have faith in facts. The facts are there's no valid reason on why gay marriage shouldn't be allowed.

And I completely agree on a political level (and personal, actually). My point is that you have to understand where someone is coming from and her point wasn't that controversial. She has her beliefs. You may disagree with them but I didn't see her up in arms screaming about how all gays should be locked in a cellar. Do I think she's ignorant? Yes. Do I think everyone should be making a huge fuss over a beauty queen being an idiot? No.

You're unwillingness to argue makes you a pedophile.....yep, those two go hand in hand......definitely.

Okay, I didn't read the entire thread (who could blame me really) but I think what she meant to say was actually right but she didn't express herself in the most eloquent way.

What I think she was getting at is : I think it's okay that gay and str8 people can both have access to marriage but I personally believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.

I don't have any problem with this stance because she didn't say that gay people shoudn't be allowed to marry and that she will not rest until every gay marriage has been declared void.

The problem with her statements were, that she ended on her own personal opinion instead of staring with it, and she also said "And you know what in my country, in my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman". If she didn't add the country part I would have zero problem with her opinion.

If she had said: "I personally believe marriage should be between a man and a women, but it's great anyone is allowed to marry anyone they want to" It would have sounded A LOT better.

Yeah the "my country" was a bit out of place.

Signature goes here!

very brave answer imo,

not so openminded but indeed very brave

 There's better things to do in the world then fuss about beauty queen, but it's funner to fuss than it is not to fuss.
