Bethesda Secures Fallout TV, Movie Rights

Post-apocalyptic franchise seems bound for expansion to other media.

By Kris Pigna, 04/19/2009

According to a couple of new trademarks, it looks like Bethesda has ambitious plans for the Fallout franchise. A blog devoted to Second Life, of all things, picked up on two Fallout trademark filings Bethesda made back in February for the use of the name in a television series and movies (via Shacknews).

Specifically, the trademarks are for "Entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program" and "motion picture films about a post-nuclear apocalyptic world." As usual, the existence of these trademarks doesn't equal confirmation that we'll ever see Fallout on the big (or small) screen, but that sure seems to be Bethesda's intention.

We just hope that if Bethesda ever does make a Fallout TV series, it airs on a premium cable network. We would not want to see the interpretation of Fallout that airs on the CW. Or perhaps a kid-friendly Saturday morning cartoon on Nickelodeon, starring a talking Dogmeat?

Around the Network

Could be a cool film, as based on Fallout 3. All of the sets and props design are complete, and the basic plot is complete as well, so it's should be a matter of getting a decent writer to gem up a script. This could probably work as a sci-fi series on SCI-FI channel as well.

Looks interesting. If implemented right a Fallout movie could be really good.

Has the potential to be good. Will be bad as always.
