It´s one year everywhere in the EU but through a EU directive it was extended for 2 years in all of the EU coutries but the consumer has to prove the problem started duriing the first year or that it was a fault from the begining (from the factory) for the second year warranty to be valid. I know this because I still worked in Euronics when this came in effect, it wasn´t liked here in Sweden at was up for discussio for a long time. (I don´t remember the specifics 100% but it was something along the lines in the above sentence).´ If this directive has been pulled back since then I don´t know if that is the case then I stand corrected and sorry for the missinformation, but as far as I know it´s still a valid directive. I could find out on Monday by going to my old boss and ask.

More further research:

This seems to be the EU Directive 1999.
However, it seems that there are very strict conditions:

Therefore, firstly the OP is still wrong, its actually 2 years with very strict conditions for some members of the EU, I dont think UK is included here. From what Ive read, the conditions are so strict that it is effectively 1 year based on Sonys guarantee.
Secondly, this will apply to all products including the 360. And furthermore there is the extended warranty of 3 years from Microsoft for other known issues like E74 and RROD for the 360.
