Really? I'd have gone mental.. they simply cant do that.. well not wihtout some financial compensation too. Its pretty much theft.

I agree with you there.  Maybe policies differ depending on which country you live in...

For all of you saying that a PS2 is just as good as a BC PS3 I beg to differ.  I find that the PS3 makes them look better...

Am I wrong?  HDMI + upscaling?

You are wrong.  I remember when the PS3 came out and there were lots of complaints that a lot of PS2 games looked much worse.

I will admit that I am quite possibly wrong as I really don't have much information at this point to back up my opinion :)

My PS2 singstar collection does look quite nice though!

I'll also mention that whenever anything is released there are many complaints from all perspectives and that does not necessarily prove anything based on that information alone...

True... For all I know a later firmware update may have fixed whatever the issues were.

I have an 80gig BC PS3, and yes. PS2 games look MUCH sharper on it. There was an update, several months ago that allowed for better rendering. I was so impressed by how good PS2 games looked, that I went back and replayed several classics. If my PS3 breaks and I don't get backwards compatibility, I will be devastated!!! I have 8-9 years worth of PS2 games that would be instantly useless.

My 60g model when it died was replaced with a 40g...its just tough luck isnt, shit happens

That's unacceptable, or IMO it should have been since you likely accepted.

If they were unable to replace a 60 GB unit with a similar unit, you could IMO have negotiated for at least a 80 GB model with 2 free games from the store you bought it from. Other options are possible, like partial (or full) money back, etc.

In Canada they said they have a lot of 60GB in there warehouse so you can still gets it.

Ironically, the person is dealing with Sony Canada.  Below is an update of the original post. -- Mike from Morgantown

Update: Just for the record, he's dealing with a repair center in Ontario, Canada, the same one with which I dealt with late last year and had a positive experience with. I wrote a full article praising them about it. Mind you, I bought a 40GB model, so I avoided this situation.

I linked to his TAWKN.com profile. I hope he's okay with that...

Update 2: here's a screenshot of the MTC repair status screen, with his name, Sony Style Store number, and work order numbers blurred out, at his request. You can still see his PS3 model and serial number, however.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Wouldn't really care if my BC PS3 broke, because I don't play PS2 games, I bought a PS3 to play PS3 games and my PS2 works perfectly well (it's a launch model console).

this is a mistake, this history is fake, lock the thread.

Thanks for adding this Mike from Morgantown :)

It is ironic that is your Xbox360 breaks down you pray for a newer model and Microsoft then get praised yet Sony get slagged.

One could say that Microsoft produced a sub standard early model so all newer models had to be superior (and you would be right) whereas Sony appear to have operated in the exact opposite way by providing its best units first then reducing functionality.

It is indeed a crazy mixed up world.
