People made a big deal over Bush's dog too.

I don't find the dog very cute, but a dog is one of the best pets to have and I congratulate Obama and his family for getting him/her.

I don't understand why this is such a damn big deal?

Fact is he needed a dog.

The President owning dogs is a tradtion.

It goes all the way back to Theodore Roosevelt.

I think it was firt popularized under Nixon. If he didn't get a dog the press would be all over him. (sadly.)

Even Clinton who had Socks the cat had to get a dog.

I wonder if he's house trained. ;]

i think obama could have gotten away without getting a dog. he would still need a pet though. but something interesting.

on cnn yesterday they said a one of them former presidents kept an alligator as a pet in the whitehouse.

it seems to be an important tradition to them.  i dont think any of the other countries news organizations needed to cover it though.
