Forums - Gaming - Who actually believes that GT series IS more popular than Halo series.

Gran Turismo was strong and popular for a little over 2 generations (counting the positive embrace of the GT5: Prologue). Halo's been strong and popular for almost 2 (as the current one is not over yet). All is left to see is if the Gran Turismo brand will continue to be as strong as it's been.

10 Billion Halo 3 Kills Achieved

By Bryn Williams | Apr 14, 2009
Bungie's Xbox 360 shooter hits a ridiculously high milestone for Covenant campaign kills

Since Halo 3 launched on the Xbox 360 (which was 565 days ago) there have apparently been 10 billion Covenant kills in the game's campaign mode. Yes, 10 billion. A post on Bungie.net by urk tells us that this amazing milestone was reached and breached over the past weekend.

A comedy list of factoids pertaining to that gargantuan figure reads as follows:

Crude math places the estimate of daily Halo 3 Covenant kills, launch-to-date, at over 17,500,000. That's 730,000 killed per hour or 12,000 Covenant troops killed per minute.

  • If you had ten billion pennies saved up, you could cash them in for about a hundred million bucks. You'd also need a piggy bank about the size of a football field to hold them and the bank teller would shoot you the mother of all nasty looks when you started bringing in your jingling sacks of copper to exchange them for paper bills.
  • Halo 3 players: Too much spare time on their hands?
  • The Earth's current population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, has reached 6.7 Billion. If current trending models remain accurate, it's projected that our population will reach ten billion sometime in the next fifty years.

  • Were we able to lay the corpses of the fallen Covenant in some kind of gruesome, macabre ring around the circumference of the Earth, we'd have to make the trip some 456 times. Roughly speaking, that would be 11,363,636 miles of end-to-end Covenant. And that's using a low estimate of six feet for each Covenant foot soldier.

  • According to Robt McLees, If we were to skin the Covenant aliens felled upon Earth's battlefield, there would be enough leather to upholster the entire state of New Jersey. Which would be easily be the most disgusting thing ever done in the history of disgusting things.
  • Bungie recently released its new Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack via the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Damn. That's impressive. And I forgot how sexy that game looks. If it were a chick, I'd tap that. Then I'd tap it's slightly hotter sister, Killzone 2.

    halo is bigger than jesus

So when is GT5 coming out, anyway?
I bet that game's the sole reason they're claiming PS3 will have a 10-year cycle, they'll release it somewhere in 2016, probably.

GT4 has more than 10 million in sales according to PD so that makes it nearly as popular as Halo 3 despite the criticisms and relative lack of critical acclaim compared to its predecessors. Only GT5 will really answer the question of whether or not Halo is more popular than GT. Personally, I think GT will remain the more popular franchise unless Sony intentionally sabotages GT5.

People already hyping games that we don't know when they are coming out.

Any one with a brain does.

GT5p did 3 million at retail alone, every GT game has surpassed 9 million. First GT of this gen = massive sales. Online = massive NA sales.

GT3 sales were cut by GT4, damn thing would have sold more had it had more time. GT5 will have much more time given dev times this gen have increased greatly.

Xbots can dream all they want, the only thing bigger then GT is GTA not Halo. And looking how Europe is now a bigger pie of PS sales, GT can expect even better sales.

Going by PS3 exclusive sales this gen I'm hesistant to say GT5 will sell as much as the old ones used to and more than Halo 3. I'm wondering how much if any hardware GT will move though.

Prologue moved hardware, WTF you think the full blow game will do ?

    Sales

    Japan pre GT5p 38.8k after GT5p 59k

    Europe pre GT5p 101k after GT5p 135k

    NA pre GTp5 40k after 53k
