Forums - Gaming - 720p or 1080p is the $$$ difference worth it?

I heard that most games can not even output 1080p even when upscaled. So would a 1080p TV be justified? So would a 720p HDTV which is considerably cheaper than 1080p HDTV be good enough for HD gaming? I have no idea what 1080i is but I heard it is somewhere in between 720p and 1080p.

Please give me your views. Thank you in advance.

Nope not worth it 1080p only applies to TVs 50" and above.

if you have gran turismo 5 yep =). what a experience.

but yeah 720 p is okay for anything under 40'

That's a tough one. The best measure is to simply test and see if you can notice the difference, if at all possible.

Be sure to use the same make/model of TV when comparing, otherwise it may just be the differences in TV's you notice, if you notice any difference at all.

What I did was I went to a local Futureshop and asked to compare a blu-ray on two TV's as I've described above (52"). I noticed the difference, and to me, it seemed substantially different.

But on the otherhand, many will say that the difference isn't especially notable when not compared side-by-side.

So, I dunno. I'd suggest, if you have the expendable funds and don't mind spend it on the 1080p, if and only if there is a noticable enough (for you) difference between the two in-store.

Haha... I'm not sure if that'll help at all, sorry.

'i' stands for 'interlaced'

What size is the TV you are going to purchase?
How far is your viewing distance from the TV?

Higher resolution TVs are generally better, though some lower resolution TVs can look better than higher resolution ones... It depends on the TVs.

Our Plasma is 50 inch and it's 768p, it has 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p modes. There's a lot more detail in real 1080i content than 720p content..

1080p is the best, our TV can't do real 1080p, but 1080p mode still looks better than the 1080i mode. It looks better than smaller 1080p LCD screens I've seen, but 1080p screen that are the same size as ours look better close up, but at 8 feet awat like we are on our couch, it looks as good as a 1080p screen.

It looks really good on games, even wii games.
