... Men play MGS because they want to watch hour long cut scenes and hide in boxes and lockers. Yeah, that's godly. Imagine Kratos hiding under a box.
I can't help but feel that this whole argument comes more down to the systems the games are mainly on and not so much the series themselves. If Splinter Cell was some sort of Sony exclusive I promise you so many people wouldn't be ragging on it. As it is it comes down more to sony fans supporting a sony franchise without even thinking about it.
If you judge both games on stealth splinter cell wins easily. Sorry. If you want to bring in boss battles and gun play and cut scenes and non-stealthy things then I would understand the difference of opinions.
I remember playing MGS2 and the enemies have cones of vision, clearly marked on the mini-map. You could seriously just walk 10 feet in front of them and they still not see you. You could easily avoid them because you could just watch their vision cones.
In splinter cell I remember a stage where they guys hunting you can, and I quote by a different gamer, "hear a ghost fart." The AI is just better in Splinter Cell, the stealth is better.
In metal gear you hide under boxes and run around like a giant cartoon with box legs and when you startle a guy a giant exclamation mark comes over his head. Give me a break how anyone even begins to take the series serious. Not to mention the stupid long and boring cut scenes. I tried to play snake eater and it took over an hour just to have control of my character, at which point I moved 30 feet and another cut scene started. Give me an effin break!
And yes, if Splinter Cell had only existed on playstation systems, well, not only would I probably own a PS2 and PS3 but I would STILL say it is a better stealth game.
that reminds me, SC also had lvls where you are not allowed to kill people, man those are bitches on hard mode, you have to sticky shock them or use all sorts of things to keep them alive while under limited tools, it's really got more interesting game play alright. I'm going to remain in the middle until I see the new one though.

This discussion isn't about MGS4 versus some specific version of Splinter Cell. As a series, it's unquestionable that Metal Gear wins hands down. Splinter Cell is a cool series though. Got it's roots from Metal Gear. Has some really cool things in terms of gameplay that Metal Gear doesn't have .
In the end though, Metal Gear is a purely better series.

No, that is the thought of somebody who lacks gaming history lessons =P. The roots of SC is from Thief which came out in the same year that MGS came out back in 1998, it's mainly a western game so it plays very differently and has more logic rather than a "!" over people's heads, and although I thought MGS 1 and 3 were good, 2 and 4 are very questionable in my book, and I'm glad Kojima is done with the game because well, he's a smart man. On the other hand, I hope Fisher dies in the new one, he keeps getting younger, like wtf? die already. In the end, again, I think it's hard to decide until I see the last one since it's a series thread rather than a 1v1.

I probably shouldn't have revived this thread since there goes another one that hasn't played both fully sigh....

I mean connected as in connected to the story, characters and plot. MGS is superior, thats why many call it the best game of all time, thats why when you watch a Raiden Cutscene you go 'Oh Shit'

I was originally going to jokingly post that Splinter Cell is superior, because of what Metal Gear turns fanboys of it into. But, I will go with the above post and comment why MGS has an issue. When asked which GAME was superior, a CUTSCENE from MGS was used as a rationalization for why MGS is a better GAME. I believe we have a problem when cutscenes are used as justification for a game being better. And this is the issues with MGS, and particularly MGS4. You get a TON of LONG cutscenes. They are good from a VIDEOGAME standard, but from a cinema standard they are ORDINARY on the high end. NONE of them would win an academy award. And this is the BIG issue I have with MGS now. People use cutscenes as justification for a game being great. If it weren't for the long cutscenes in MGS4, the game would be above average, and not hyped up as all that.

Oh yes it should. Your reaction to this question is a problem I have with MGS. One can ask which is a better stealth series, because Splinter Cell has also received praise also. And for the sake of emotional balance, I will say Splinter Cell. If you start having veins pop out of your neck lasting over 4 hours, because of this, go seek medical attention.

I can tell you are a nice guy since you used the word "ordinary" instead of much worse XD.
