Forums - General - Is abortion a crime against humanity?

I think it is a huge crime! How can you kill something that will have the chnce to be living? What if you had been killed?

Have you ever worn a condom during sex? Spermicide maybe?

Greeks used to have fairly liberal abortion laws. It was the father's decision, and abortion was legal up until age 28.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Well I definitely agree with the first part, but I think they were wrong for making it 28. 25 sounds more fair.

I think you were considered a mature adult and were granted full citizenship and the "privallage" to vote at 28.

That is different, I'm saying if the baby is already alive and is developing already.... How can you kill that?

I want to ask a potentially silly question to pro-choicers.

If killing a fetus is not wrong in some way because the fetus is not alive, then do you support the right to bottle the fetus for safe keeping? I know people sometimes do this with their kidney stones when they get removed, and I figure it's a similiar thing, both being just objects.

Just want a quick opinion from a few people.

Edit: One more question.

Plastic surgeons, dentists, medical companies selling drugs can all advertise the pros of their services/products. Should abortion clinics be able to advertise the pros of abortion? As far as surgery goes, it's just another non-life threatening surgery just like plastic surgery is(usually, I know there are exceptions).

The second question is easy to answer. Yes, they should.

The first question I want to answer Yes, but for some strange reason, it just feels wrong. I mean I don't consider it a human life, thus I am ok with the abortion, but keeping it in a jar just seems strange.

I also don't consider a relative that has passed away to be a living person, but having it stuffed and sitting in your living room seems like something I would be against as well.

A relative that has passed away WAS a living person. You also may not kill a relative, but you can remove a fetus. They are not comparable. A fetus is nothing more than an object.

So to bring the first question back to you with that straightened out, why do you feel wrong about the bottling of a fetus?

I understand the purpose of the question.

If I feel abortion is ok because it's just an object, the question is intended to question my belief that a fetus is an object.

I don't think a fetus is an object though. I think it's life, just not human life. I was going to say out of respect, but if you respect it, then it's more then just a insufficient life.

I don't know. It's a really good question. Got me thinking. Not sure it will get me to the point where I am against aborting it, but it definitely is making me think more on the subject.

So yea, my honest answer is out of respect.

If abortion is fine, why not infanticide? Whats a few more months?

Anyone can look @ my avatar and know where I stand on this. Also I will quote Reagan: I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.

So yea, my honest answer is out of respect.

It was something I asked some people the last time this topic came up, and a lot of people found it morally wrong to bottle something they previously considered non-living. I'm actually pro-choice, but I also despise abortion itself, so I test pro choicers to find contradictions. Not enough people test pro-choicers in intelligent ways in my opinion.

I appreciate the honesty though. It really gets you to test the boundaries on your beliefs because it does feel very wrong, especially in the countries most of us reside in.

To further probe you, what kind of life do you consider a fetus to be? If a fetus is a life as you say, then the correct term for removing it would then be killing. You squash a bug, nobody cares, but it's still murder. What makes the fetus' life the same as an insects', as opposed to a humans', when we're all aware of what the fetus' life will become?

Also what is this respect you speak of in regards to a fetus?
