Forums - Gaming - Why are video game fans so defensive?

It's almost impossible to state your opinion without being accused of being a troll, especially on gamefaqs. I don't get criticized for hating on movies or any other form of entertainment. It actually makes me quite sick.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Cause only loosers who can't get laid play games, so they're always angry.

Hahahahaha!

Don't call ME defensive! YOU'RE the defensive one!!

Generally I like to blame this sort of thing on market segmentation. The fact that we can experience the medium via different consoles does contribute to this.

It's because, well, umm, like.. t3h C0ns0l3 W4Rz!!!1!

No, really, basically, it's just people feeling insecure and acting childish.

Manchild syndrome.

Except you will get criticized for hating on other mediums. Try saying that one movie format is better than another, or tell the millions of Titanic lovers how much you thought the movie sucked. And don't even get me started on music. Books can pretty much be explained by the average book club.

HEY, Titanic DID suck.  Don't you try and change history.

Yeah I agree with Montana, fanboyism isn't exclusive to video games, you've probably not been exposed to much fanboyism in film, books, TV to notice.
