So you're, what, a 17 year old who listens exclusively to classic rock? Real broad musical palette you have there. I know a lot of people who blindly hate rap, and then as they get older and wiser and start listening to music beyond the radio and their dad's old CD collection and branch out into many different genres admit that rap can produce music that is as good as any other genre. People who are as blindly biased as you about anything literally make me feel sad about the world.

First, I'm 19, not 17
Second, I listen to music I like. If I don't like a song, I don't listen to it. I don't decide what I like or not, it's already in my brain. Hearing a song like, say, Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns 'n Roses makes me feel good, brings me happiness and I think it sounds beautiful. Hearing a rap song makes me feel bad and want to turn it off. Why the hell would I listen to something that I don't like? I can't force myself to like a song I hate, if I think it sounds bad, then for me it sounds bad, period. If you like it, be my guest, but I'm in no obligation to broaden my tastes to music I don't like.

Lame.

What's a discussion about hip hop without one of TV's greatest theme songs?
@zexen, listen to mine! I want to know how long you can stand it, to see how it compares to the others you've tried!
And just because you can't stand most rap doesn't mean the genre itself is worthless. It just means you haven't heard the good stuff yet. It's like knocking the opera because you've seen fat ladies parodied on TV, but have never been to the opera.
You just aren't familiar yet, so of course it all sounds the same, and at a quick glance the bad stuff outweighs the good. There are several subgenres within rap, and the genre has a rich history. Right now, most old people hate video games and think they're all trash, and if you want to hate entire genres/mediums without giving them a chance, you'll grow up to be just like those bastards. Also, random laundry lists of hip hop won't really help anybody, and this thread is just turning into a "my hip hop is better than yours" battle.
And if you prefer rock over rap, what do you think about classic rock/rap hybrid collaborations, like Run DMC and Aerosmith doing "Walk This Way" (link)?
Hip-hop got sucked back down to it's roots. You'll find quality differs between indy label emcees and emcess signed under the big 5(minus some examples of course). Here's the best rapper on this planet, MF Doom, doing what he does best...nonsense:
