I agree. The rise of the manga/anime culture came because of the success of Dragonball and that was before the Playstation ever existed and it wasn't caused by video games at all.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Now, many people say Nintendo will keep jrpgs and anime and manga popular in the West.  But with the family friendly and for everyone images that Nintendo tries to cultivate, do you really think they would endorse a game, anime, or manga with themes as dark as those found in a product like the Death Note series or even darker or racier works?  I believe the heaviest types of material that Nintendo would try to endorse would be no more so than teen works like Inuyasha.

Um... all I have to say is... MadWorld.

Switch every time you mentioned Xbox with Wii.

Yeah, but Madworld hasn't sold that well yet, and Nintendo caught a lot of flak for it from different organizations that were saying, "The Wii is supposed to be the console for families and this goes against everything we want in our console."
So how willing would Nintendo be to try something like that again?  I'm not saying they won't release another game like that but everytime they do they risk upsetting their core audience.

I still think there's a link in there somewhere.  Certain videogame magazines for example that have supported games like the jrpgs the most have also been cheaper alternatives to some of the glossier anime / manga magazines, and I think they have created a link between Japanese games, anime, and manga (not so much music for some reason because I don't remember ever hearing of a J-pop song becoming a Top 40 song in the US).

It would actually be in Japanese companies best interest to support the 360 much more than PS3, but I don't really think most Japanese companies or Japanese people see things that way.

Anime's been losing a lot of its grip in America, as evidenced by the end of Toonami and the way Adult Swim is just compressing it back into the most obscure slots possible, but it really has nought to do with the console wars.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo doesn't care. Aslong as the game isn't rated AO. They didn't have anything to do with the release of the game in the first place, it was produced by PlatinumGames and published by Sega.

PS3 hasn't failed... yet. Wait for a pricecut.
