Forums - Microsoft - Can Microsoft just buy the rights to Shenmue from Sega?

I was wondering since Shenmue 3 won't happen as long as Sega has the rights to it. And with the recent news of Yu Suzuki's retirement, it will not be good even if Sega decides to finish the Saga with someone other than Yu Suzuki at the helm.

Since Shenmue 2 was released on the Xbox and published by Microsoft, couldn't Microsoft just buy the rights to the franchise and get Yu SUzuki out of retirement, like the Final Fantasy guy from Mistwalker, and continue with the series.

It make sense since Microsoft really need some new IPs ATM, and to get some interest and stay afloat in Japan.

I know it probably won't happen but it would make my dream comes true as Shenmue is one of the most under appreciated series of all time and need a closing 3rd act at least.

Around the Network

Yu Suzuki isnt retired, just gave his current position up

itd be nice only if it was the same team exactly

no reinvention, game was perfect

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I'm sure if Sega wanted to sell it to them it could happen.
