Assassin's Creed and Rockband Unplugged will be critical for 2009.
LittleBigPlanet will also have some success, though it isn't a big franchise like the above. Don't think Motorstorm will help much, but I'll be picking it up if it's anything like the other two.
Crucially though, Sony should have cut the PSP's price to $99, rather than the PS2's. I think that is their biggest mistake of 2009 so far.
I guess not, the way things look now, PSP is set for a slow demise into obscurity.
Anyone who thinks yet another redesign is gonna change things around, wel... good for you. :p

UMD's are a pain in the ass, and PS3/360/Wii/iPhone have taken over thanks to it. Once PSP games are all available on PSN. They will see a huge influx of purchases from one very usefull household. |
VGChartz numbers are way off:
"On the games front, more than 2,000 titles on UMD are available worldwide, with cumulative software sell-in units reaching 200 million to date (*2)."
(*2) As of the end of December 2008

I believe Sony can turn things around, they need to lol. I don't think piracy is the biggest problem, I think it's the way people see the PSP, not as a game console but as a multimedia device, specially after the second half of 2008.

I don't think those new announcements are going to equate to steller sales to be quite honest.
Edit: Dissidia will have selling power, but Assassin's Creed and Amplified-Rock Band title? Not really. LBP could be big, but still... the Q1 DS line-up already beats that.
Of course they can.
Will Sony do it? Depends on the line-up, proper advertising, and PSP price.
I'm not sure why people keep bringing up piracy issue when talking about PSP sales. It's not like DS/DSi can not be hacked.
Now I see that PSP-3000 can not be hacked but PSP game sales outside Japan never picked up after PSP-3000 was released. It just confirms that the poor sale of PSP games is not directly related to the piracy issue. Can we drop the whole piracy issue and focus on other areas?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
