so i never updated my computer till now, and the next update if for service pack 2

so how long does it take to get installed?

i think it takes about 20 minutes to one hour depending on your download speed

Windows XP is up to service pack 3 now, i would seriously recommend that as well because up-to-date security fixes are only applied to systems with the newest service pack. The only update I'd avoid is Windows Search 4.0, it's a boggy mess (its under the non critical updates).
