Generation after next.

I don't know. Next generation maybe? Look up the videos on Alan Wake's engine. Some of that real time weather stuff is being implemented. It looks impressive.

I believe the PC will at least be able to do it next generation. Consoles it depends on if they take another losing strategy like MS and Sony did this gen or if they take a more conservative approach like Nintendo. If they go balls out with the specs then yes I believe next gen we will see something along those lines. Like I said in my previous reply, go check out the Alan Wake development engine videos from March 2008 and you'll see real time weather effects similiar to the second picture.
