According to him the difference b/t an artists and a hack is the artist always looks for what the truth is

After that regardless of if I was trying to convey some intangible or not I made it dark and dreary in my explanation and the lowest I got was a b, (its also why I laugh hardest at the part in IT when bill talks about his college days, I was creeped out at first reading that b/c I was like whoooaaa!)

But seriously, just because an artwork is "happy" doesn't mean it lacks depth. Conversely there are millions of "depressing" artworks that are about as shallow as your common garden emo.
