I'm finding it hard to follow that idea...So what you're saying is that they should stay in the same state they were in the first place that got them into the "financial fiasco" instead of taking a chance and trying something new that might potentially bring them out of their financial woes.

They should do some structural changes and stuff, but making something new while youre in crisis doesn't seem right. Of course you need to R&D something, but it can't be anything big while in crisis. Anyway the whole thing started from price cut and now you know why I think its unlikely. Even pricecut of $50 would mean more than $10M profit loss each month.

Why would Sony price drop now ?

Look at sale statistics - they lose by 20-30k units compared to X360 which has huge fanbase in America, and much lower entry price.

And if they reduce now effect will be gone long before solids.

They would be much better with complete rehash of PS3 line in September just in time for Christmas. If they can come out with PS3 slim for 300$ and PS3 with BC for 400$ they should be good to go for christmas season.

its gonna be an announcement for each console they still support, ps3/ps2/psp. seems logical since they waited a few days after gdc. price cut on all 3...sure. maybe some new games as well.

Really, I don't see a $50 PS3 price cut breaking Sony as much as some people seem to make it out. PS3 will be recieving a hardware revision this Summer that will probably lower the manufacturing cost of the system by somewhere between $100 and $50.

Are we even sure this is a PS3 announcement? For all we know it's the sort of already confirmed ps2 price drop.

$299.99

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Price cut 100$ or 50$ and a free game in standard pack.

It just has to be. Developers are starting to badmouth SONY's strategy and issuing thinly veiled threats about halting or greatly reducing support for the PS3.

This on the back of mediocre sales (in a commercial sense) for LBP and Killzone2 which wont have helped dev's moods.

Could you fix the OP. The 'big PS3 announcement' is only confirmed to be a 'big PS announcement'

My prediction is most likely a PS2 price cut

If ps3 gets a price cut it should be 50$ now then once again in fall with another 50$ or just wait until the holidays with big surprise by 100$

It could be the PS2 price cut, but what an anti climax that would be. I'll say it's a PS3 price drop to $300.
