Oh, f***. And I've been worrying about all that stuff sitting around in Russia.

If I were you, I'd still be worrying about the former Soviet Bloc. This was released and while it's disturbing, at least we know about it. You know that panic-level awareness happened once they realized the weapons were missing.

As opposed to the Soviet Union where they still have unaccounted for nuclear weaponry from years past.

Sounds like a new James Bond script to me...

And GDubb is in Australia right now... what a convenient time for a "mistake" to occur!

And you know this how? Accidents can happen. Even the chance of the bombs going off from 0% to 0.01% is scary. Double parachutes failing happens...

Have you heard? Common sense is not too common.

What he's saying is that the trigger devices have to be detonated in a very specific order to produce a nuclear explosion. The nukes wouldn't have gone off if the plane had simply crashed, but there would have been several hundred pounds of radioactive material spread over the landscape.

The worrisome thing is that this material was loaded onto a plane by accident. That's the way shit ends up disappearing. What if the missiles had been inteded for a live-fire exercise, or if the plane had gone down over the ocean or over foreign soil?

Speaking of strangelove, here is even more atomic fun; http://www.slate.com/id/2173108/pagenum/all/

Also, thank good, us Greeks fools don't have nuclear weapons.

Hey man, We do some pretty fucked up things here in the US (ahem.. scientology, brittney spears, jimmy carter) but don't worry.. we ain't gonna bomb ourselves, lol.

Understanding is the key.

Looks almost like Dr. Strangelove action there. Just stop worrying and learn to love the bomb... I'm scared $h!^less.

haha, priceless... i'm gonna have to check the colbert report, i know he'll have something to say... when did this happen?

We've done far more worse things than that accidental B52 nuclear bombs fiasco.

This for example.

There are so many failsafes and codes that need to be entered into a nuclear bomb to make it react properly (they just don't explode upon impact, you know, they're actually quite harmless unless armed) that you can rest assured one will not go off accidentally.

After all, we have lived in a nuclear age for over 60 years and have yet to see one bomb go off accidentally (even during the 50s when the Russians were... let's say... "careless" with some of their atomic technology).

It's worrisome that these were put onto a plane and went unnoticed for a few hours. Nothing more, nothing less. That plane could have crashed into a damned oil refinery and nothing would have happened, other than the carnage let loose from a plane crashing into an oil refinery, that is.
