Forums - Gaming - Square Enix takes over Eidos!

The majority of Eidos stock holders have spoke, and it seems the popular UK-based publisher will be turning Japanese.  Square Enix, the Japanese publisher behind the behemoth Final Fantasy series, offered to buy out the publisher at 32 pence per share.  Over 85% of the share holders voted in favor of the purchase, and the move was subsequently approved.  Eidos will officially fall under ownership of Square later in April, once it's stocks are delisted.

This falls in line with Square Enix's plans to put more emphasis on Western-appealing games.  The Japanese publisher will gain control of popular franchises, such as Hitman and Tomb Raider.  Though the lackluster performance of the latest Tomb Raider game was actually a big part of Eidos' decline this past year, Square hopes to spruce the franchise up.

Tomb Raider RPG, anyone?  Though given Square's track record this generation, it isn't as if it would make it to the PS3
