"u think that the 60gb ps3's are more reliable than the newer versions of the 360's". I know this queary was not directed at me, but hell yes. Do even a modicum of research into E-74 errors, and you will see the disparity between the PS3 and 360 failure rates is still in full effect. There's a new-ish article about the rise of E-74 over at Joystiq.

Speculate much?  I can speculate too!  I have heard dozens of stories on here about blu-ray player failures so it goes both ways.  Deffinately more blu-ray deaths than E-74 ones, atleast from what I can remember.

Both are relatively reliable so I don't know why we have to go down this street again.  Jeez.

Are you for real? Speculation? Yeah, there's no hard data or any information to even make a supposition. I'm sure the E-74 article and all the well documented problems with the 360 hardware is mearly conjecture, to say nothing for RROD. Although I am shocked that the gaming press, and gamers themselves, haven't latched onto the fact that you've read about DOZENS of stories about failing Blu-Ray players. On top of all that, the qeustion was posed, so I answered. If you believe "both are fairly reliable", you must be ignorant.

So let me get this, you have absolutely no proof the E-74 error is any worse than Blu-ray failures and you call me an idiot?  Quit talking out of your ass.  There is not enough documentation either way and you know it.

Holy crap. Did you read the article at Joystiq? Are you denying the 360 has had huge hardware problems? I may not have access to MS's internal documents, but I have something. I have years of media coverage, a litany of pissed-off gamers, and MS's own addmission to and retro-active warranty to cover the RROD debacle, which took almost 2 years to unfold. In other words I have precedent/recent history to go by. And that is all well documented. And again do some research. Read up on it. Learn that the instances of searches regarding E-74 have gone up dramatically on internet search engines in recent months and then tell me I have nothing to go by. What do you think is happening? Did the search term "E-74" just randomly begin to see an upswing? Is there a huge, organanized conspiracy to ruin the 360? Help me out here.....

Hey; apologists tend to live in denial. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. A quick Google check is all it takes to see it's not a part of some huge organized conspiracy to ruin the 360.

Thing is, if I ever actually experience a terminal hardware failure with my 360, it won't be accompanied by outrage, or a smug "I knew it" since hardware issues are widely accepted as synonymous with the Xbox 360. We all knew it going in and to really believe otherwise is relying upon bucking the odds or just plain delusional.

I know of 3 people personally to get E-74. But getting into the microcosm of ones own experience, or those of a small circle of friends is pointless....

I bought a falcon in Jan 2008 and got the E74 error in November. No problems thus far with the replacement (knock on wood). It seems E74 mostly occurs on falcons.

Oh, and thanks for posting those links greenmedic88. Not trying to be an ass but debating that the 360 is now on even keal with the PS3 in terms of hardware reliability is akin to debating whether or not the sun is a giant ball of water.

@ These reliability posts

Fact is, that if an uneducated bloke walked into a store and bought a 360, Its more likely to fail on him than if he bought a PS3.

*hoping this is an early April Fool's joke*
but if isn't....
since you had a 60GB! why didn't you just pay the $150 to get it fixed then sell it on ebay for $500 -$600?

You're not leo-j!

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

lol I thought it was Leo-J , hmm I don't care now TBH.

Two more quickies and then I'm done with this thread. @Leonidus. Very succinct. Plus funny! The end..lol. @damndL0ser. I never said you were an idiot, I said you must be ignorant. Big dif as one is supposed to be more of an insult than the other.

I actually just bought a PS3 yesterday off of eBay. I have never owned a Microsoft system before, but I have owned all the major Nintendo systems (NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, Gameboy/Color/Advance, DS) and Sony systems (PS1 and PS2).

I'm somewhere between hardcore and casual when it comes to gaming. At times I play a lot of games but then there might be several weeks/months that I go without playing anything. Right now I am kind of in a hardcore phase.

I got an internship for over the summer and I will be working with High Voltage Software, which is a game development studio currently working on "The Conduit" for Wii (heard of it?).

Xbox has just never really interested me. I guess Microsoft is the one company that I would just refuse to game with. I am more of a Nintendo fan, but I like what Sony has to offer as well.
