Lost Odyssey is geared more towards adults then the teenager the typical JRPG is aimed at. If you're still into Pokemon, you might want skip it until your tastes mature.

While the combat, magic, encounter system is generic, the scripting, voice acting, and story are excellent. One of the best VA games I've ever played.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I like LO very much, almost finished with the game (55 hours so far).
i really like the battle system, and that it is hard to overlevel.

I tihnk the combat systems are too different to really get a good comparison of the games.
