I will give Valkyria Chronicles credit for being a really good game. The art style is real good. But, just about every thread discussing the state of the videogame industry, someone chimes in with something begging me to buy Valkyria Chronicles. It is at the full $60 price. Well, why?
I can understand you asking people to try it if it is of interest to whomever it might be, and I do encourage everyone to download the demo. HOWEVER, Valkyria Chronicles is elevated to something that is supposed to make a difference in the industry. Well, I have to ask why? Why do I, and everyone else have to spend $60 to buy this game? So, even people just into FPS titles should buy Valkyria Chronicles? How about fighting games? Should people who just like fighting games buy Valkyria Chronicles? How about driving games? Should they buy Valkyria Chronicles Karts if it ever comes out?
My view here is people are making this game out to be more than just a game, and some sort of item everyone has to buy to "save the industry", "prevent the plague of casual gaming", and maybe replace the Folding application that the PS3 used to run, so that you can save humanity with it. Oh yes, and people are also supposed to trade in the likes of Killzone 2, if needed, to do it.
Ok, you like the game. I get it. Fans of SRPGs should also look into it. I get that. But why must everyone and their cousin buy this game for the "good of the industry"? Are companies supposed to be serving me, not the other way around? I am currently on unemployment at this point again. How exactly does buying Valkyria Chronicles help me me?
Sorry to be blunt here. Fans, enjoy the game, and discuss it in the right context. But, I am tired of your begging all of humanity to buy it, even those who aren't interested, to buy it.
