Well, if you don't like where you work go somewhere else.... Easy as that.

I mean honestly, unless he was planning on sueing Microsoft, he, assuming he is atleast a decent designer, could have switched to a different company and then been a bit more careful about what he let his coworkers know.

I see this as being his own fault, and if I were working there I could have just as easily complained about working next to a gay guy and sued Microsoft for not accommodating MY feelings.

Nope, you couldn.t If you are uncomfortable workign with gays, straights, blacks, whites, purples, or imaginry aliens from the fifth dimension you have to put up with it or leave. Creating a hostile work environment for someone else because they are one of the above though is actually illegal. The reason is because there is only so many jobs to go around. Eventually you just run out and have to suck it up with a shitty jo for no reason other than an accident of birth. This was done to keep people from being second class citizens like in the old days.

Of course, my point was that other poeple have a tough time at work and manage not to sue anyone. Some people get made fun of because of their hair, some because they are overweight, some because the have thick glasses, others because they are bald. Instead of running to the resource desk you can attempt to work it out, you can suck it up or leave, like the other guy said. I dont think it's fair that gays and lesbians get this special treatment when others have it just as bad for some other reason.

And if all it took was someone calling your haircut ugly to create a hostile work environment you migt have a point. Unfortunately for your arguement it takes more than that. And there is recourse for just normal folk when people are creating and overly hostile work environment. These suits don't get as much coverage, but they exist. Thanks for playing though.

Things were better when they were all in the closet and kept their sexuality to their selves. Gay people certainly existed back in the 70's and 80's, but we didn't have these problems back then. The only people that need to know if you are gay are other gay people.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

You're babying gays, that's how this country got flipped upside down, by babying everyone and everything.

How does anyone find out if you're gay? You either tell them or expose yourself somehow. Hell he could have put up some pictures of girls for awhile, anything, there are many ways this guy could have avoided the whole situation. It's his fault and Microsoft shouldn't have to pay him to make him happy.

(Not his fault because he's gay, but because he had to have handled this situation very poorly to let it get out of hand, then again, maybe he's just not a people person.)

Obviously you're all for gay rights, and that's fine, but I have a strict "Don't be a baby" rule, no exceptions.

It shouldn't matter if a person is gay or not. Even without telling the whole office in person the secrets can get out. Picture of loved ones are acceptable in an office, and a dead give away if they are all of you cuddling with a person of the same sex. Just as easy to spot someone out on a date with a member of the same sex. Expecting these people to hide in the shadows of society is reducing them to second class citizens. It turns out thats a bad idea.

I am not for babying the gays. I am for not treating them differently than anyone else. If the guy was dating an uggo no one would have hassled him about it for long. Expecting the same treatment for a gay couple is reasonable. And, again, it has to meet the criterion for a hostile work environment. It takes more than a bit of name calling, and it exists for everybody.

I don't bring my klan robe and Nazi flags to work because it could make my jewish and black co-workers feel uncomfortable. I can't even keep a picture of Hitler on my desk.

So, sometimes you have to inconvience yourself to not offend the majority.
