I saw this on the news. Lots of backlash from Canadians, leading all the way up to the politicians.

Canda's army isn't that strong but it would be a formable opponent versus say France's army.
The guy did issue an apology:

The other guy who talked about not knowing Canada had an army was forced to cancel his shows in Edmonton.

Military forces of allied countries often will have competitions. Most notably with special forces, as a way for countries to cross train their troops.

I have freinds in the army I know people who have died in that conflict in Afghanistan, this is the most disrepspetful thing I have ever heard, how dare they, we fight side by side with their men and women and they make fun of us??!! Im litteraly choking up thinking about the people we've lost in this war. Just last week 3 of our boys were killed over there, none of them older then 26! This is a fucken outrage Fox News, EVERYBODY who was in in writing these 'jokes' should be fired and never aloud to have a media outlet to voice their God Damn idiotic nonsense.
