The game runs and looks just fine and really, if graphics and widescreen are the reasons that you buy games....why do you even own a Wii?

Who said graphics and widescreen is the reason I buy games? The point is that games look much better with widescreen on my TV (i.e. they actually use the whole screen), and it gets worse when you find out they could easily have implemented it if they wanted to.

I don't get that kind of argument. The Wii is a current-gen system and I have a minimum standard for games. I don't think asking for 16:9 support is asking for too much in 2009, especially when even crappy shovelware games can do it... I'm not even going to complain too much about the lack of 480p.

In your original post you said epic fail as though the lack of 480p and widescreen had ruined the game or made it a total failure....or maybe your were just being overly dramatic to garner attention. My argument is that since I actually own Madworld, it looks just fine and graphics have nothing to do with why it is an awesome game.

It was a bit of both (as usually happens when people use the "epic fail" phrase). I'm not saying the game itself is an epic failure because of this, but their decision of not caring about the PAL conversion can count as an epic failure :P

I can't wait when the new generation of gamers replace this generation.

Its so for the best.   Maybe they'll appreciate good games.

Yeah, if a game is good people may not have any criticism about it.

Look buddy, nobody here is saying MadWorld is a bad game. In my opinion, it's a pretty good game, with lots of humor and good production values.

However, the PAL version is severely gimped in the display department. And I'm sure the NTSC version has its own share of problems (lack of 480p is also in the NTSC version). That is unacceptable this day when even Petz games support 480p widescreen.

Heres my question.

Does it honestly take anything from the gameplay?  Or the game itself?

Because not purchasing a good game because of its resolution sure is a dick move.

Who's talking about not purchasing the game for it? I have the game right here and I'm glad I bought it. It does have problems however, like the display this thread is about.

I think it was the OP write with this comment.

Is this true? If so that will at the very least postpone my purchase even more. Epic fail Sega. Wake up, we're in 2009!

If true, damn you guys are so hardcore you won't even buy games anymore!  Wait...

@Dinomax: I have already replied to that point too, in my reply to SuperDave. Thanks for the snide remarks though.

At least I can be glad the NTSC version probably works with the Homebrew channel. If only you had read my previous replies I have also said this part before.

While obviously graphics are not everything ... it would be nice if the display met at least with the standard display output.

I wonder if Platnum Games or Sega thought this game would not sell very well in Europe (remember Bruce on Games rant about SSBB not selling in the UK) and thus decided it was not worth the effort. Of course, since Ubisoft seems to make the effort with Petz games, how much effort could it be?

None of this really applies to me since I have a 27-inch Sharp NTSC SD set bought in the late 1990s.

lol Dino it's really not necessary to turn this into a fight.

Unless of course you were trying to convey in a totally unrelated way that you enjoy the Rolling Stones, because then it's quite alright because the Stones are awesome.

This thread really is a waste of time and effort, as is every other Wii game thread pointlessly bashing for the sake of your own opinions. Dinomax is right, NJ5 you got your excuse but the rest of us WILL buy it and support the dev. of better games.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
