Forums - Sony - Are you happy with your PS3?

i love my ps3 for my blu rays but really haven't used it beyond that tho I have just gotten Killzone and I really do like it, but the bulk of my game play comes from my 360. at least for now.

One word : Yup .

Yes. Although I don't like the fact that I have to be acrobatic about buying from the PS Store (that is, not available in my region, but the same goes for the other consoles..).
And hurray for online game retailers :).

Yes, I'm very pleased.

With my launch PS3 i had the chance to play excellent PS3 and PS2 games (didn't have one before), making it the best console experience I had to date.

Yes.

I'd like it much more if the PSN wasn't so lame.

I wouldn't mind paying more to get XBL quality.

Awesome, I was mainly a PC gamer before owning a PS3. The experience of games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, etc are of quality I haven't experienced in a long time before owning a PS3.

For me the PSN is great as well, much better quality games overall compared to what is being offered on XBL. Warhawk, Super Stardust HD, WipeOut HD, etc.

Same for me, I took one second-hand (80 gb, 3 months old, for 250 €), but I'm glad I didn't payed 400 € for it !

Great features and games.. but I'm a bit unhappy about the following :

  • 720p native (WTF ??? This is 2009 now can we have 1080p like on the 360 ??)
  • subpar online integration ... urgh...not to mention people without mic, that poor psn store and that silly HOME...
  • the dualshock is a bit too little and uncomfortable

For the rest, it is rather good

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Yes.

The PS3 has been the winner in my book for consoles this generation based upon amount of use it sees.

PSN and ease of finding and chatting with gaming friends through Home have made it my online service of choice for play.

Media functions outperform my Windows Media PC for speed and ease of use.

Although not bulletproof (have had one out of warranty hardware failure), I'll still buy multiplatform titles for it based upon hardware reliability barring superior playing PC ports (higher res/frame rate). The 360 has been reduced to exclusives and HD-DVDs to minimize run time.

Liked it enough to buy a second. Will likely buy a third when a reduced component PS3 Slim is released.

Would easily be the one platform I'd keep for gaming given only one choice (yes, even over the gaming PC for straight gaming purposes). Already given me the best mileage and console experience in over 20 years of gaming after only 2 years and change.

There are more native 1080p PS3 games than native 1080p 360 games. Most games are 360 to PS3 ports (which usually could make much better use of the SPEs), so that's not really a surprise.

Microphones work fine on the PS3, luckily most mic users on the PSN seem more mature compared to on XBL.

Home is IMO a pretty slick free offering, played a game of chess yesterday with a stranger, also practiced the little helicopter game, unlocked some arcade goodies, needless to say I had fun doing that and the potential is huge:

For you maybe, not for me with my large hands and people within my family and amongst my friends (the Playstation style controller remains the most used game console controller worldwide by far). There are plenty of games which would be unsuitable (or providing a subpar experience) for the XBox controller, for instance Sixaxis controlled games like Super Ruba Dub and Flower or games like Super Stardust HD, Ape Escape or Blast Factor which would be weird and hard to play with the assymetric analog stick configuration or for replaying Snes, Amiga, Sega MegaDrive, etc classics for example under Linux, the 360 dpad is not good for that at all.
