How?
How does progressive taxation help government inefficiency and our people living so far away from each other? By being more socialistic we would be increasing the administration costs making everything cost a lot more.
Also we do have progessive taxation.
People who make $100,000 or more make 35.58% of the income.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_distribution
They pay 70.79% of the US taxes.

That's pretty progressive.

more beneficial for the people, everyone can afford healthcare and education, taxation is fairer, better regulated financial sector and stuff
Additionally the top 1% in the UK pays 21% of the UK's taxes.

In the US the top 1% pay 40% of the US's taxes.
The US is more progressive then the Uk.
If we adopted the UK's tax brackets for example it would be less progressive.

Well, the most economically socialistic countries today are Cuba, North Korea, China, Vietnam, Syria, and Turkmenistan. I would rather be poor and living in the UK or USA before I would want to live in any of those.
So while socialism makes everyone equal, the luxuries provided by the rich for the poor in a capitalistic society outweigh the negatives.
We have better roads, air quality, safety, food, medical facilities, education, and so on.
In the US, if you are dirt poor and get sick, you go to a hospital, get treatment, file bankruptcy if need be, and move on. In China, you die.
I will take the US over China any day.

Though you do see now that the US can't be like the UK by getting more progressive.
It's already more progressive and we get less out of it as far as healthcare and schooling and other things go.

youre confusing socialism with communism, a common mistake, but one that most capitalists make, youre also forgetting that thoose countrys are also either very poor and undeveloped or in the case of china, have incredibly authoritarian governments, im a libertarian (using the terminology of thepoliticalcompass.org not US political party)

This is my definition:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism#Economics
“Economically, socialism denotes an economic system of state ownership and/or worker ownership of the means of production and distribution.”
The top countries in the world that follow that definition, are the ones I listed.
